Planning 9 days in Italy, wana help?
Hi, I am planning my 9 day stay in Italy, and I thought I'd ask some experts. I fly into Rome and fly out of Venice days 9 days later. I was thinking of staying in Rome for about 3 and a half days, then train to Florence and stay 2 and a half days. Then train to Venice for 1 and a half days. How does that sound? I know it's fast, but I really want to see all these places. Would you suggest to allocate my days any differently, like any day trips outside of Rome or Florence? What do you think about Sienna or Ostia Antica? I am also travelling solo if that makes a difference, thanks!

It is not clear to me how many nights you have - is it 9 nights?
If so, I would spend 5 nights in Rome, 2 nights in Florence and 2 nights in Venice. I don't see any time for day trips here.
Also, I assume you are planning "open jaw" flights to maximixe your limited time (e.g. fly into Rome and fly out of Venice or the reverse)??

I would spend 5 nights Rome, 1 night Florence, 3 nights Venice. I'm not a huge fan of Renaissance Art, and I don't care for Florence as a city. Much prefer Venice--though such preferences can be somewhat subjective.
You can see Renaissance art and architecture in Venice, but La Serenissima has a lot more variety--and the city itself is a unique world treasure.

Another option would be to leave Florence for a future trip (to include Tuscany). If I were doing my first trip again, I would do 5 nights Rome, 4 nights Venice.
Keep in mind, we were there in January and Florence was so cold it was difficult to be outside. I'm sure that influences my opinion. It's not that I wouldn't want to go back to Florence...it just doesn't rank up there with Rome and Venice.
