In June of 2008 we went to Munich by train. We have done this route before on the overnight train, but my son hates that. So we trained to Bressanone and stayed the night there. Next morning, it was only about 3-4 hours on in to Munich. There is lots of beautiful scenery and the town was really cute.

The plane steeply ascends to avoid hitting a mountain and descends steeply 30min later. . So no, flying isn't that much of an experience. The train ride across the brenner takes a lot longer, but is very scenic.

Like logos said, it is lot quicker by plane if time is a factor. Or the night train will cost more but saves time. In June I had a single cabin on a CNL from Munich to Amsterdam that even had a shower and a toilet in it and a table with two chairs. Also Hairdryer, shampoo, and shower gel were provided as well as a nice breakfast.
