Pisa…how long?

How many days do we need in Pisa before flying home? 1 full day? 2?

IMO not even one full day.

. . . a few hours is more than enough

Love Pisa. How long depends on what you want to see. Yes if all you want to see is the tower an early morning before the tourists is enough. But if you want to see the rest of the city a couple of days. Obviously it depends on your interests and what other options you're considering.

Pisa has some interesting places apart from the field but without doubt the 6 buidlings in the field are a great and efficient opportunity to get a great visit in a day. I'd just get it done in one day plu lunch.

The other religous sites both withing the walls and outside the walls towards the north would make up a second day of visits but really not that exciting

It depends on your interests really. If this link doesn't work, click on my name and scroll down to the "In Defense of Pisa" trip report:

https://www.fodors.com/community/europe/in-defense-of-pisa-1702701/

Edited to add, If you do read my trip report, go to entry #11 for annhig's memories and Leaning Tower. Also see pix of the Duomo. With your short visit, Pisa as a travel base isn't on point.

'A few hours' was maybe a tad flip. But I assumed (maybe wrongly) that you are staying there the night before your flight out. So from say a mid-morning arrival into Pisa, the evening/over night and perhaps a couple of early morning hours depending on your flight time would give you a nice taste of Pisa IMO. If you do really want to explore than 2 nights/close to 2 days would be fine.

Thanks so much for all of your information. We have actually decided to skip Pisa and spend some time in Rome, flying out from there.
Thanks again.
