Picking between an English guided tour of the Louvre or Musee D'Orsay

Picking between an English guided tour of the Louvre or Musee D'Orsay
Hi everyone,
My husband, 15 year old daughter and myself are going to Europe for the first time this summer. We arrive on a Monday morning after flying overnight so we can only go to the Louvre that day since they are closed on Tuesdays. Mid-late afternoon would be preferable and I can't find an English guided tour for after 2:00 p.m.
If we go to the Musee D'Orsay it would be the next day sometime since we meet our tour group the Tuesday night. We will see Versailles, Seine cruise, illumination tour with them on the Wed etc. Is it too much to try to see both museums or which one would people pick if they could only see one? Thank you very much for your assistance.

If you only go to one of these museums then go to the one that has the art you're most interested in. It's not about what other people's interests are. If you like Impressionism and Post Impressionism then you would go to the Orsay. If you like art from the Middle Ages to the mid 19th century then you would go to the Louvre.
It's not too much to see both on two different days but there are other things to see in Paris besides museums.
The Louvre is huge so I suggest going to the web site and looking at a map of the museum and deciding ahead what you want to see there so you don't wander around aimlessly. I once got the audio at the Louvre and I would not recommend it because it gives a very high level look at the art works and did not cover enough of what I was interested in.

I personally wouldn't take a guided tour of either one. Especially the Musee d'Orsay. Just go and enjoy the art. You can carry the audio guides and listen to the descriptions of any pieces you are particularly curious about. But a formal guided tour -- I wouldn't.
A tour might make a bit more sense at the Louvre because it is so huge -- but I wouldn't want to be limited to the items pre-selected by the tour.

There is no need to a guided tour of the D'Orsay - either you love impressionists or you don't.
The Louvre is another matter - since there are so many different departments just picking out which you want to see is a challenge.
I would suggest going to the web sites of each and seeing which you can;t do without.
