And yet photos are forbidden inside Sacré Coeur, so Treesa may be going to hell;

Treesa, you have a good eye for color. As for kerouac's comment, you're not the first nor the last, so I'm sure you would be in good company. Some of them, I'm sure, would be Fodorite francophiles.

denisea, I'd say you've been a lot of places in France already, but it wouldn't hurt to go back and fill in the blanks. Admiration for managing to be alone on THAT bridge. Oh, the cheese photo!

yestravel, I've always wanted to see Le Bon Marche (maybe I have but if so I've forgotten). I read The Ladies' Paradise recently, which Zola based on that store and it was fascinating. We love the heritage days but have never been in a big city at that time. Last September in Belleme we were able to visit the grounds of a charitable organization started by the founders of Le Bon Marche.

ssander, my parents went on a trip to Italy with a group of building contractors, and the plumbers loved seeing Roman plumbing. When we bought our place there was a two-holer, but it's gone now. Nothing lasts as long as Roman stonework or concrete.

I posted much earlier but thought I'd post a few more. These are mostly from people watching.
I am also quite often in the right place at the right time. The gymnast in front of the Louvre.
We were in Tours the day of the World Cup final. We went out into the streets and joined the others. Once the game ended most restaurants only served drinks. Only McDonalds.

Tours after the world Cup final ended

Girl and her mother were there. They hired a photographer. I asked if I could take a few if I didn't get in their way.

The contrast between the little girl and the senior lady is brilliant. Thank you.

Thanks kerouac, Coquelicot & Treesa,

Both of those were taken in Aix-en-Provence. The girl was waiting her turn to have her picture drawn. On the Cours.

The other is in the market.

Its a fancy dept store. I only went because I wanted to see the Xmas decorations. We have never gone into any of the bldgs during Heritage Days. The last time in Paris, I was determined to get into one of the larger govt bldgs. We waited maybe 10 minutes outside prior to the opening. It was so worth it. We also went into several other bldgs but CIty hall was something special.
I don't know who started this thread, but I love looking at all the photos.

It was just an over-nighter, on our way either to Lyon or Annecy. If you click on the left arrow after opening the photo, you will get an idea of the chambre d'hôte where we stayed. Her husband ran the cheaper restaurant on the square; no great shakes.

Fantastic photography Meyer! I enjoyed looking at your people shots. Tip for the rest of us: note the careful attention that Meyer paid to lighting.
Ca c'est bon!
I am done. The pictures.

Dumb and unwanted question... Have these people agreed to having their images published on the internet?
There is a lot of talk about personality rights in the real world around me. Doesn't this apply to "exotic" people we encounter during travels?

I'm in love with this thread. All the pics are so beautiful and make me feel nostalgic and excited and it feels really good. I'm looking forward to my next return to France. Pics from Lyon, Lille, Marseille, Bordeaux soo welcome thanks!!

I was wondering the same, quokka, thanks for bringing that up.

Quokka, the issue that you raise was once the topic of an extremely heated debate over on Lonely Planet's old 'Thorn Tree' forum about a dozen years ago. Things got out of hand. A related question was also posed then, "Should one ever pay folks a tip to take their photos?" World War III broke out after that. A lot of very heated opinions and comments.

Gotta go. We're putting the finishing touches on Lightroom to our Aveyron collection from this past fall. Mrs Z is an excellent photo editor, in addition to being a shutterbug herself.
I am done. The white balance.
