Phew! I am wilting... we are in the middle of a heatwave here in UK.....
......Be prepared if you're popping over here any time soon! Here's the report on AOL:
"THE UK remains in the grip of a heatwave, with temperatures in parts of the country expected to reach 32C (90F).
Britons baked under the year's hottest temperatures yesterday, with the mercury reaching a sweltering 30.7C (88F).
Jersey, in the Channel Islands, notched 30.7C (88F) beating the previous high for the year of 30.5C (87F) in Shepshed, Leicestershire, on June 22.
Lindsey Quarrie, of PA WeatherCentre, said a number of places could have had higher temperatures than 30.5C (87F) during the day, but that the figures were not yet available.
"It has already reached 30C (86F) in quite a few places, such as Cardiff, Yeolvilton in Somerset, Bristol and Farnborough,'' she said.
The heatwave saw Britain basking in weather equal to that at the Spanish holiday destination, the Costa del Sol, where temperatures reached 31C (88F).
Ms Quarrie said: "Western Scotland and Northern Ireland will have some showers today. The rest of the country will be mainly fine and should be very hot.''

The Boston Globe reported this morning that London bookmakers had decreased the odds that England will hit 100 degrees for the first time since record keeping began. It also reported that Rome has hit over 95 degrees every day for weeks, so I guess it could be worse!

It's hot here in Brussels, too!! The temperature is about 32-33 C, which is about 92 F, and humid!! Not a cloud in the sky. Although we--like 90+ percent of Belgians--don't have air conditioning, our apartment is not too bad, we're keeping the curtains drawn. And no hot meal tonight--we're having a pasta, yogurt, and pepper salad.
Had lunch today at a sidewalk cafe, sitting in the shade and enjoying the breeze.
Right now, I've the fan going in the living room and have just turned on BBC 2 for the latest episode of Flog It...
When are those thunderstorms coming?

Our standing fan is one of our prized possessions. We drag it with us on vacations around Europe--we really needed it last summer in Austria when we hit another heat wave.
FYI, did you see Spooks last night? What a sharp commentary on French/British/American relations.
Does anyone know--is Spooks showing in the U.S. yet?

31 yesterday is the hottest it's been all year? That doesn't seem like such a big deal to me. I was in Paris end of June and I think it was over 32 for about a week and I didn't have AC either. I think it may have been up to 36-38, although that seems incredible. I thought most of Europe had that heat wave at that time, also, but I guess the UK missed it. I live in a place where it can be 32+ for a month in the summer, so that doesn't seem so alarming to me.

Christina, well, everything is relative, and its relatively hot here for us, we are not really used to it! When I am abroad, I can deal with it better - I suppose because I don't have to work in the heat! Pass me some ice to chuck over me someone......

Well, guys it could be worse. You could live in Oklahoma, USA. (Just about right in the middle of the country).
Our current temp. here at 11:20am is 95 degrees. By this afternoon, it's supposed to get up to 104! And, oh yeah, the relative humidity is 52%. That means, at this very moment, it feels more like 101 degrees already . . . AND IT'S NOT EVEN NOON!
Yes, I'm staying inside all day.

It could be worse? I guess so but hard to imagine.
In Switzerland its been in the mid 90's for weeks now - try working in an unaircoditioned office, then shopping at the unairconditioned market, and commuting on the unairconditioned tram/bus/train home to your unairconditioned apt.
It does wear you down.
Front page of the paper today was the headline that hundreds of swiss cows are being sent from the Zurich area to the Berner Oberland due to excessive heat and no water.

I enjoyed reading everyone's weather report!
Yes, it's all relative, I guess. 80-something temps in July doesn't sound all that bad to me; here in Massachusetts 90-something temps are fairly common in July and August. However, it has been quite comfortable in the greater Boston area lately, in the upper 70s today, I think. I know that because at home I haven't had to turn the A/C on in quite a while.
I hope dear old Europe will get some much needed rain and cooler temps soon! Just as long as you won't have those horrible floods you had last year. Remember those?

Amen Queenie! Many Americans who think 90 degrees "isn't that bad" or "it could be worse" wake up in an airconditioned home, commute in an airconditioned car, work in an airconditioned office, then go back to an airconditioned home.
Day after day of 90+ degree temps with no airconditioning ANYWHERE is very wearing. Even those who live in hot muggy places like DC and don't have airco at home usually get some airco during the day--in the mall, the grocery store, the office, etc. It's the not having a break that wears you out.
The temperature here in Brussels today apparently peaked in the mid 90s F. (and over 100 in the buses and trams I took).
But I REALLY feel sorry for our troops in Iraq--not only is it hotter than here, with no airco, they have to be in full uniform and body armor. May they all find some cool relief soon!
