Perugia Airport

Has anyone flown in/out of this airport from the US? Thanks.

I can't imagine any flights out of the U.S. flying into the airport at Perugia. Even the flights from other Italian airports into Perugia are very limited in number.

What is your question about it? As Eloise says, it has very limited flights. A couple a day to Milan, I think, where you could connect to the US. It must have a website with more info. When I've gone to Perugia, I've flown into Rome and taken the train from Termini (you often have to change at Foligno).

I'm not sure exactly what my question is. There are several flights that go from where I am to Perugia (they all connect in Milan, I think). We have to be in Perugia at some point in our trip, and I'm trying to figure out which airport to fly into/out of. Was wondering if there are any reasons why I should or shouldn't fly into Perugia.

I would suggest that you choose a larger airport to fly into. There are two busses a day from the airport to Perugia and two from Perugia to the airport. It's 12 kilometers from the city, and from the sound of it, I don't think you can count on too many taxis standing around.

Surely you must be going to Florence or Pisa or Bologna or Venice or Rome or...

I have not flown out of there but am planning a trip to Florence, Cinque Terre, and Umbria. I'm planning for us to fly into Florence and out of Perugia. The main problem may be getting to the airport for a 6:30 flight to Milan in order to get back to the US in one day. I've checked it out and read that it may be difficult to get out of the town of Perugia early enough. I'm trying to figure out where to stay that last night in Umbria so we can get to the airport on time. The airport website shows the early flight to Milan leaving at 6.55, though Expedia et al. say 6.30. The earliest bus from the Perugia centro leaves at 5.30 and I don't know if a taxi can get there but will choose hotel accordingly.
I read somewhere that you have to take escalators down off the hill and the gates don't open till 5.30 or so. We aren't going for a while, but I want to get reservations in place.

Eloise—sorry I missed your post earlier; thank you. Looks like we will be flying into Rome, but we will get on a bus to Perugia as soon as possible after we arrive in Rome. My daughter’s school recommends the Sulga bus line. If I’m reading the schedule right (link below), they have buses from FCO to Perugia at 12:30, 2:30, 4:30, and 5:00, depending on day of the week.

Good luck with your plans, Italymybriarpatch—unfortunately, I have no help to give you, other than to confirm that I read about those escalators.

(P.S. that’s a good name you have--all this planning is a becoming a briar patch to me, lol).
