I recall just walking around the gate without any problem. The beach you have pictures of was very happening when I was there last July. In the early morning older locals were enjoying the warm waters, while younger folks enjoyed lounging on chaises later in the afternoon. I loved my time in Nafplio and enjoyed seeing your pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Whitehall, I love your sunset photos!

Nylily, at the time we didn't realize there was room to go around the gate because we didn't go right up to the gate. It was closed so we foolishly thought it was locked. How silly of us. But we did spend an afternoon at Arvanita beach lounging on the sunbeds and cooling off in the Aegean. We walked there from our hotel.

Arvanita Beach in Nafplio

Thank you Whitehall. I really enjoyed your report, especially of Nafplio. It brings back such wonderful memories of our trip last May!

When we see all the sunbathers vying for the mostly concrete seafront in Montenegro and packed double-decker in your Nafplio photo, I feel fortunate that yesterday we had a wide expanse of Florida beach, almost to ourselves, at peak season.

Whitehall, just looking over your beautiful photos again. My husband and I will be in the Trikala area again this August and might have an extra day and night. I think I might like to go to the monasteries again. I have been before but not to all and your pictures was so inspiring that I think I would like to see St. Stephan’s and Varlaam. I just love to take pictures too. Would also like to stay in in Kalambaka. Any recommendations for hotel or restaurant would be appreciated.

Thank you again. We stayed downtown at the Alexiou Hotel in Kalabaka. It was October 8-10. The total cost was $143 euro for both nights. We got a mountain view double, which basically was a top level room, with a modern glass enclosed bath, and a terrace with breathtaking views of Meteora. And front desk staff were personable and nice. It even included a buffet style breakfast. Kalambaka was a perfect walkable village and didn’t feel overrun with tourists. We enjoyed a couple of great restaurants there also at very low prices. Wishing you the same perfect weather we enjoyed!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and photos! I am in the very early stages of planning a May/June 2024 trip to Greece and have been waffling on whether to go the extra distance to Meteora. We would only be able to stay there one or two nights, and also want to see Delphi before heading to the Peloponnese. It is so hard to prioritize with all the beautiful ruins, sights and scenery! I think your post has put Meteora into the "definitely" category for me. Thank you for your report!

Thank you for the kind comments. We have been to Greek islands a few times, but the trip to Meteora was almost next level. And, you can cover a lot of ground in two days.

Late to this party, but I've only seen this now, while planning our trip to Greece in Sept/Oct. Great photos and very good info, thank you for sharing!

Thank you. A very memorable visit. Prices quite reasonable. Not too crowded.
