Orvieto is fantastic. But I would base them near Pienza, so they could be closer to:
Pienza
Montepulciano
Montalcino
San Quirico
Sant Antimo Abbey
beautiful Val d'Orcia countryside
Siena
San Gimignano
Volterra
and less than 1 hr to Orvieto
