Pensione Accademia

Can anyone advise me on the difference between a "standard" room and "superior" room at the Pensione Accademia? In your opinion should we spring for the superior? Also, what do you think "canal view" means? IE: "ocean view" and "ocean front" can be very different. Thanks!

From reading previous posts here, the diff betw std & superior is evidently size, both room & bathroom. I had a superior (#22) & it was adequate sized (not claustrophobic) & the bathroom was generous, but the stds can be very small I gather. But my "complaint" was we only had 1 window while others in std. rooms report having sometimes 3.

A canal view will be just that. The hotel sits at the "corner" where the Travaso (sp?)Rio & the Grand Canal meet. You will have a view of one or the other or both. Keep in mind there's no elevator & the top floors can be quite a hike.

Hi PB. My husband, son and I stayed there last April, and enjoyed it very much. We had a triple room (actually, two bedrooms and one bathroom)on the ground floor, behind the reception desk and right off of the front courtyard. Initially, I was concerned that the room's location would mean it was loud, but it wasn't at all.

I have no idea if it was a standard or suerior room, but I can tell you it was lovely. Also, since we had a corner room(s), we had a view of the tiny, side canal and the larger, front canal (NOT the Grand Canal), with the pretty courtyard in front of that.

The property is small and, right on the canal. Therefore, I suppose your canal view would depend on the floor you are on and placement of your room.

This is a fine, quality 3* property. Try it; you won't be sorry.

Hi PB- stayed in both a standard and a superior in the same visit. First off, this is a great place to stay. Our first two nights were in a standard. Smallish, very plain room, plain furniture with a desk. Tiny bathroom, that had a sewer gas smell sometimes til we learned to dump a cup of water into the drain in the middle of the floor. It was a corner room, three windows at least, we were looking over the canal that leads to the Grand Canal, and could see a small portion of the Grand Canal. Then moved to a superior (room possibly named Louise?) fancier furniture, parquet floor, murano glass chandelier, two bedrooms, off court yard. I think there were some superiors on one of the upper floors off a nice sitting room area (it always smelled like cigars when we were there tho)when we got a glimpse into one it seemed like it had the fancier furniture. While the standard is perfectly nice, I think you will feel the the place has a lot more of the "charm factor" if you choose a superior. I was dissapointed, a bit, when I first saw our standard room but oh boy what I wouldn't give to be there right now!
