Pay the single occupancy fee to a tour company or agree to share a room with a stranger of the same sex?

My friend (woman) booked a tour of France with the idea of sharing a room to cut costs. To this day she swears that the woman she was sharing with was really a man! He/she wore scarves to cover up her neck, had big hands and feet and when surprised or late at night her voice would be alot lower.
