Passport - How to Get One Fast -SF Area
I know I read somewhere that you can get a passport in a day if you go to an office in San Francisco. Anyone have any info. I also read that you can pay extra for an expedited passport which takes about 10 days. Any info would be appreciated. Yes, I'll call the PO on monday.

Go to travel.state.gov/passport_services.html for information.. I assume you live near San Francisco, otherwise there are passport offices in many other places, check the above website.
According to the main website, if you are leaving on trip in less than 14 days, apply in person at the nearest passport agency, presenting your tickets or airline-generated itinerary, as well as other required items listed in the website list of required info.

Ronda,
An expedited passport costs 60USD and takes 3 days to process from the time they receive it. I just had to do this since the standard processing time is now 6 weeks. None of my previous passports took more than 2 weeks.
You can pay for the passport to be sent back to you via fed ex. Just give them your credit card number and instructions for fed ex.

The expedited service is the way to go! I just went last friday and got it yesterday-Friday- it only took 7 days, but I am on the east coast.
It was extremely costly though. I paid 115 dollars to the state department, 30 dollars to the county ( cus I got it through the dmv) then I paid 13.65 to express mail it and another 13.65 for the self addressed envelope.
I sure learned a lesson the hard way about planning ahead.
All the best!

I forgot to explain the process:
I went to the local dmv- it just started offering the service....
I paid all of the money I owed as explained above and they kept my birth certificate )it'll be returned when you get your passport.
I filled out envelopes for mailing it there and mailing it back to me, it priority mail- hence the 13.65 charge 2x's......I was then given a sealed envelope with all sorts of stamps over it and told to go to the postoffice to get the postage I needed, the sealed envelope and the SASE were placed inside a bigger envelope and mailed....
I waited and got it in 7 days.
I have never had one before, but I had seen one before, however I was just amazed at how flimsy it was. My mom got a kick out of my reaction. I was looking in disbelief yelling this is it? I am out almost 200 dllars for this?!?! She asked me what I expected, I was like, oh I dunno some gold lettering, some gold paper edges, a free case to put it in....something....
Bureaucracy at work!!!;-)
