Parking in Paris

We will be renting a large van in September and touring the French countryside for one week before staying a full week in Paris. When we are finished in Paris we will be driving to Germany to visit with family and we will be returning the car in Kaiserslautern. We need to find a place to park our van for the week we are in Paris. My husband thinks our best chance for a full week parking is at the airport. Any other suggestions?

When we need parking in Paris, we stay at a Citadines with underground parking. The one on rue Amelot is very convenient.

Since you will not be using the van while in Paris, have you ever considered two separate rentals? This might save you considerably as both the van and parking can be expensive. You pick up a new van when you leave Paris.

You're going to pay a shocking amount of money to pick up a a rental car in France and drop it off in Germany. Plus the cost of housing the car for a week in Paris. Makes no sense. Do two separate rentals and take a train from Paris to Germany to pick up the second one.

It was in 2005 when I parked up in Paris (underground garage down from Place Monge towards Place d'Italie). I had a Renault Espace - considered a van by many.

I paid around 20 euros a day for the garage. But this was in 2005 and will obviously be more now. I found a website by googling which had all the public carparks in Paris listed with prices. No idea if it is still there now, but you can try a search.

Airport parking would probably be your cheapest option, in one of the long-stay car parks. Again, google is likely to be your best friend here.

(I am British and had driven my car over to France and was touring round Normandy - we were only in Paris for 3 nights.)

I think central parking garages are around 30-35 euro a day now in Paris. I suspect the airport is cheaper, but don't know. This website is one company with a lot of Paris garages http://www.vincipark.com/

YOu have to be careful about the height restrictions of vehicles in those things, of course, if they are inside garages. I know the one near me has a height restriction of 1.9 meters, which should be okay for most regular minivans, but wouldn't for large ones (like the Ford Expedition in the US is taller than that).

At least at CDG it is open-air so the height isn't as small a restriction, and the rate is only 25 euro a day, vs. 30-35.

airport parking info, CDG and Orly http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/f...fs-Paris-Orly/

There are also lots at the airports that are cheaper if they are farther away and you take a shuttle bus to them, but the above link describes them. The cheapest one at Orly seems to be only about 12 euro a day.

Thank you for all that information, Christina.

I am considering another road trip from the UK to France in the next 12 months and a night or two in Paris is always worth considering, especially as it's 'en route' to almost everywhere else in France!

I think it was vincipark.com which had all the info, and I seem to remember the DK eyewitness guide had car parks marked on the maps as well. I'd booked rooms at Hotel Monge and they also suggested the car park I used.

So scring, surely the hotel or apartment owners/agency where you will be staying can also suggest parking options?
