Parking costs in London

We've planned to rent a car while in London next week because we want to see Oxford, Cambridge, the Cotswalds, and perhaps Bath. Any ideas about costs to park a car for several days and overnight while in London and not travelling outside the city? Would it be best to just do trains to the various areas? Thanks.

Its dumb to have a car in London. Parking will cost around £30 per day. See http://www.ncp.co.uk/ncp/default.asp for locations and parking rates.

Why can’t you just rent a car for the days travelling outside the city?

Just drive into central london during rush hour monday-friday.
jump out of your car for an hour or so sight-seeing and when you return , you'll notice that none of the trafic has moved, saving you the cost of parking.

Having a car in Oxford would alos be a pain because of lack of parking and the extended pedestrian areas. There is park & ride outside the city but the day we visited (this July) it was already full around 10 a.m.

In London, generally speaking, it's a case of four wheels bad. So, ditch the car idea and restrict your out of town trips. Get more out of the city and perhaps 'do' Bath and Oxford or Camb. in a day, either by coach or train.

www.thetrainline.com will give you an idea of train times and costs. (A return- which means round trip- is cheaper than two singles - which means one way.) To Bath, it is usually cheaper to buy the tickets beforehand at Paddington Station, but please search for the international phone number on the above site and ring for information.
