Wordsmith:..As we had discussed when we met, I would choose the Regency...very close to Taksim Square and Istiklal Cadessi, rather than the Macka which is in staid Nisanstasi..a rather boring part of the city IMO, and further away from the attractions. We stayed at the Regency and had a smashing view of the Bosphorus (be sure to ask for it). Hope you have a great trip.

Hi Stu--- I had just read a smashing review of Park Hyatt in Travel and Leisure, which of course made me salivate...if you think location is that important I will listen to you---on the map they looked pretty close together.

I just gave you my opinion. but really, you can't go wrong with either Hyatt...it's just that Nisantasi section did not appeal to Roz and me, as much as the Taksim/south area along the length of Istiklal street. Nisantstasi is definitely more upscale and sort of "Rodeo Drive attempts to go Turkish". But, again, you will love Istanbul either way. When do you leave?

We leave a week from Thursday...really excited. Still have not made up my mind yet---just was so tantalized by that article on the hotel. "one of the best new hotels in Europe"...thanks again and hope you are doing OK....it was so great seeing you and would love to again next year when and if we are in L.A.
