Does anyone have experience traveling from U.S. to Paris, and visiting there for a week with an adult child in a wheelchair? What is accessibility like there? Is public transportation accessible? What about accomodations in and around the city? Any pointers from anyone would be very appreciated. Thank you.

One of my family members is disabled, so this was something on my mind during my last couple of visits to Paris. I think it could prove to be a difficult city for anyone that is is a wheelchair or has mobility problems. I did not see many wheelchair friendly restrooms.

My husband traveled with a wheelchair to Paris in 2002. We stayed in the 6th Arrond. at the Best Western Left Bank St. Germain in one of their family rooms; very spacious and accommodating to a wheelchair-bound traveler. I was gladly surprised on how accesible the streets and how many helpful and courteous people we found everywhere we went. We didn't used the metro, but taxis which was no problem whatsoever. I can not recalled one single taxi driver that was not helpful. There are a number of metro stations that are equipped to handle wheelchairs travelers. The Louvre sightseeing was no problem, although get familiar with the layout ahead of time, specially the elevators locations. There will be churches and places you won't be able to go in, but there is plenty of accesible sights. As far as getting around the streets, I was pleasantly surprised on how well and enjoyable it all went. Have a great trip!!
