Paris weather in February
Please help me convince my boyfriend that we would enjoy a long weekend in Paris the first week of February (our first trip to Paris). He thinks the weather would make the trip unenjoyable. I have heard Paris is a city best experienced by walking. Also, we would especially like to spend some time relaxing at a cafe or two and, of course, see the tourist attractions. While these activities are best in mild weather, I say if we dress for the weather we can see have a great time.

Any supporters?

Thank you.

Carolyn,

Go! You will have of the time of your life, no matter what.

I haven't been to Paris in February so I can't comment on that, but I *have* been in Paris on cool, rainy days, and the weather never bothered me at all. "Bad" weather just gives you an excuse to linger in your favourite museum, shop a little longer at the Galeries Lafayette, or duck into a glass-enclosed terrasse and watch the lightning while you sip your "chocolat." Rain can lead to serendipitous discoveries (I found a sweet little Thai place that I never would have tried, except that I didn't want to be rained on anymore!), and hey, it's even kind of cheesy-postcard romantic to huddle together under an umbrella while you scurry down narrow streets in the Latin Quarter.

I've resolved to see Paris at every time of year. In your lifetimes you will probably do the same, so don't feel like you have to *start* with the Paris-in-May trip. I've waxed verbose here (even for me!) to try to show your boyfriend how charming your trip will be.

And who knows, it may not even rain on you, after all!

GO! We went in January and had cold, rainy weather, but it didn't matter. It was wonderful just exploring all the museums, cathedrals, grabbing those magnificient sandwiches made with incredible baguettes, lusting after their out of this world pastries. Also, if you learn just the basic French courtesy words, it will take you a long way. The French are formal and appreciate good manners. Have a wonderful time!

Yes, by all means go! My husband and I were there last year for his birthday on Feb. 15 and it was cool/misty rain, but definitely did not keep us from doing things. It did not rain the entire time, but was on the cool side. Actually, we are stopping over again for a day this Feb 9 before we start our cruise in the Mediterreran for 10 days. We expect cool weather there also, but such a bargain! We travel in the off-season frequently. Not so many crowds and prices are much better.
Enjoy!

Go! We went to Paris in Feb for a long weekend in February a few years ago. It was cold and drizzling the first day we were there, but the rest of the time it was sunny and about 45. That's perfect city walking around weather, considering that's 20 degrees warmer than what we're used to in upstate NY. We did sit in an outdoor cafe for a little bit, and we weren't the only ones doing it either. We kind of planned our days weatherwise; we woke up the second day and it was sunny so we went straight to the Eiffel tower. We figured if it rained the rest of the time at least we got to do the good weather stuff and we'd go to museums on the lousy weather days. Fortunately it was nice the rest of the time we were there, but I think a walk on a rainy day in Paris with a big umbrella would have been pretty romantic, too!

Walking around a great city like Paris in inclement weather is fine as long as you're dressed for it. The nice thing about pedestrian cities like Paris, or New York, or London, is that there is always something wonderful to do indoors. The weather is merely incidental. I'd RATHER go to a city in late fall or winter, and save my warm weather vacation time for the countryside or the beach where it really does make a difference.
