Paris to Monte Carlo
We are spending our honeymoon in London and Paris this December. My fiance would love to spend at least one day in Monte Carlo to see the casino. He mentioned the bullet train. Has anyone visited Monte Carlo as a day trip from Paris?

Carolyn,

I'm guessing that would be about a six hour trip each way on the TGV... I don't think that would be an ideal day trip. I may be mistaken about the length of the trip, but I don't think I am. I took an overnight train from Nice to Paris (it wasn't a TGV) last summer that was 10-11 hours.
Carolyn, the fastest TGV from Paris to Nice is 7 hours and 29 minutes, and Monte Carlo is still a bit further. It would be impossible as a day trip. Plus, if you want my honest opinion, I wouldn't bother with Monte Carlo, except for a really quick stop if you're in the neighborhood. It is somewhat of a stunning view the way the city is laid out, but beyond that, there is not much to capture the imagination unless you're loaded.

We have been to Monte Carlo, but not as a day trip from Paris. Even if you care to take the first TGV at 7am, you won't get to Monte Carlo until 4:40pm, this is because TGV only goes to Nice and after 2pm, Nice-Monte Carlo train drops to only once every two hours.

If you have to do it as a day trip, you'll have to fly Paris-Nice leg unless it is ok just to have few hours at night, coming back next morning.
