We've almost decided that our best option for travel from CDG into Paris is by taxi - our situation:
- Traveling with 5 adults w 1 large & 1 small suitcase each.
- Arriving at CDG at 1PM on a Monday - assuming an hour to retrieve bags and go through customs that would put us at the taxi stand by 2PM.
- Staying at the Hotel Luxembourg Parc. The hotel quoted us $150 for a private shuttle.
- We've ruled out the train - too much of a struggle with luggage (transfer from train to taxi or walk to hotel).

The questions:
How long will it take us to get a taxi at CDG, large enough to carry us & our luggage?
How much can we expect to spend?
How long will it take at that time of day?

Thanks for any information you can share.

You shouldn't have to wait long for a station wagon to come along, or perhaps even a van. The fare into Paris will range from $40 to perhaps $50. Depending on traffic, the trip will take from 45 to 60 minutes.

The Luxembourg Parc hotel is very nice--enjoy your stay there.

Not to get picky, but just to expand a little...

The taxi fare would be a little higher with five people and baggage than it would be with two. I would peg it in the neighborhood of around 50 Euros or even a shade above -- so a little over $60 U.S.

While I often see vans at the airport, Murphy's Law could come into play. If you have difficulty finding something adequate because of the size of your group, then the worst case scenario would be two taxis and 90 to 100 Euros total.

While the two taxis still run less than the private shuttle you were quoted, you might want to consider the Air France bus to Montparnasse. A taxi or two from Monparnasse to the Luxembourg Parc Hotel (FABULOUS location) would be cheap and I'd guess the whole adventure would run you less than 80 Euros tops in that fashion.

As Flyboy said, it will work out but you may have to wait just a bit for a vehicle. The shuttle will be more.

I wouldn't bother taking the Air France bus to Montparnasse and then a taxi, that will cost you more with that many people.

I would definitely take the taxi over the RER, but I would expect to pay a bit over 50 euro for 5 with luggage. It cost my husband and me 46 euro last week to go from hotel to CDG. Except for the ride to the airport, we had been a party of 4, and even riding around Paris there had been an extra charge for the 4th person, w/o any luggage.

But the charge for the extra person is about 1€. Charge for luggage is just under that/piece.

Christina, I agree on the bus/taxi. That option was listed simply in the event that it became a choice against TWO taxis in from the airport.

Gretchen, we paid over 2 euro extra each time there were 4 of us in the taxi, no luggage.

I've been vacationing in Paris nearly annually since the mid 70s and as far as transportation into the city goes, I prefer taking the RER. My hotel is in the 6th,too. I was in Paris in March 2005. I usually travel alone, but this past trip three people came along on the trip with me...they were three inexperienced travelers...first timers basically. Anyhow, I told them that we should take the RER. But they insisted on taking a taxi...now... their luggage hadn't even arrived to Paris upon our arrival, but mine had so I was the only person with luggage and wasn't complaining about taking the RER.I find it quite easy. We got to our hotel in the 6th...Hotel le Clement...one block south of Blvd. St.Germain... and the fare came to about the equivalent of US$93. I almost had a heart attack. And this was on a Sunday, early afternoon, with not so bad traffic.Happy Travels!

We used the blu van a couple of years ago. The fare with that many people is 14.50 euro per person. They have a gerat web site and reservations on-line.

I think the person paying $93 for a taxi did not take a Taxi Parisien and was grossly overcharged.

I do not possibly see how it could have been that much. In the worst traffic jam, $60 would be a LOT. There is something wrong here.

Not to be repetitive, but we paid 46 euro last week, two of us, no traffic jam; that must be around $60. I've never had the taxi to/from CDG be over 50 euro, but what that means dollar-wise is different today from what it was 2 years ago.

Yes, the dollar is down and the Euro is up.I was there the last week in March 2005. For 3 decades, I've been keeping travel journals. I write down EVERY dollar/Euro or whatever currency I'm using... that I spend on my vacations and the amount we paid for the taxi is ACCURATE. Now, there was some traffic on the freeway part of the trip into the 6th, but not as bad as it would have been during the work week. Happy Travels!
