I thought I would dig up this ancient topic for people worried about what to wear in Paris because I have two new additions to the top -- on YouTube this time.

That one is a bit long and the music is dismal (imposed by YouTube copyright policies), but the second one can be seen in only 4 minutes.

the second one as filmed in one place the cross walk which made it boring, We need to see a cross section, not just your neighborhood. The first video, the people were neater and better dressed, perhaps a differen Neighborhood? Where I live there are a lot of sloppy and overweight but If I cross the bridge into Back Bay and Beacon Hill, Boston, thepeople are slimmer and well dressed. One part of town has women with big hair. All big cities have these differences,

I find that a bit of an exaggeration. Most people in Boston dress okay, but not particularly better than most of Cambridge - at least if you ignore the aging hippies that are too common in Cambridge. And the freak show that is Central Square - MIT nerds and crazy old people is not a good mix.

One thing that people should remember is that an area known for chic attire such as, say, Saint Germain des Prés is an almost insignficant part of Paris as a whole -- the population of the 6th arrondissement is only 43,000 and Saint Germain des Prés is the smallest of the four sectors of the arrondissement with a population of only about 5000. The population of the city as a whole is 2,300,000. So while you can see some very fine attire in certain areas, it is very far from the norm of most Parisians.

Just flew in from Venise and am now in Manhattan with sweaty Keith.
Everyone is in dirty Swarthmore t-shirts and frappuccino- splattered shorts.
No one except the shop girls at Prada and Etro were dressed in Venise.
It was so hot almost everyone was dressed like they were going to clean out the basement, which, of course, would be a huge problem in Venise.
Really, if you are travelling to Europe this summer, dress like a homeless person; it is en vogue.
See you in the gutter on the Rue de Varenne.
Thin and sweaty Keith

Sorry for reviving a very old thread Kerouac! My wife is preparing for our May/June trip to Paris and asked me if I could see if "my friend" on Fodors who had the wonderful pictures of what real people were wearing in Paris from about 5 years ago had any more pictures.
Apparently, I need to worry that her memory is like a steel trap. Her description of what I showed her back then led me to think of you and your wonderful Any Port in a Storm pictorials. A little searching and I've found it!
The problem is, I couldn't find any updated pictorials on the subject. Any chance you have a more recent spring time in Paris What they Wear pictorial? My DW would absolutely love an updated pictorial.

post 2 says (rightly) : Great montage but those are all tourists. The real Parisians were all down here on holiday.
I love the women in saris and in african dress : they are colourful and have class.
Still funny to see the difference between autumn and summer - I suppose both sets were taken in the 18th....
(and thanks for the flipflops !! Even my daughter wears some).
