Paris streetwear photos - November 2010
Unfortunately, I have done it again -- photographing all of those unsuspecting people going about their business in Paris.
But at least it will answer your questions about what people are wearing at the moment. All of the photos are here ---> http://tinyurl.com/22qr6ge |
Les jeans!!!

Thanks. This is always fun.
|
I did notice that just about everybody was in jeans, bookchick, except for the "real" business people.
|
This is just what I needed to see, thanks. Makes packing so much easier for me. And some things I can get when I get there next month, it looks like the weather is what I am use to here in Philadelphia. Thanks

Black boots are always IN! thanks for sharing these, really enjoyable and good to know what is going on. Susan

kerouac - Thanks, it is nice to show my students what the real people wear in Paris.

Great people watching, thanks.
Remember a few years ago, when people here were advised that nobody wears jeans in Paris? |
Looks similar to NYC actually except I didn't see anyone texting - you can't walk three feet here in NYC without walking into somebody who's stopped to text... ;-)
Nice photos, thanks! |
I also didn't see many people smiling much..not a happy lot of folks!

I've been across the country many times and jeans were always everywhere. Notice several women where wearing uggs. When I reported that, they laughed. They have been in the shoe boutiques for a few years.

Kerouac, your photos illustrate an essential skill for dressing in Paris: The twist of the scarf. Both men and women enliven their garb with scarves, the accessory of choice from September until the spring flowers are in full bloom. The drape and twist express dash, zest, chic, distinction. Women preparing for more formal settings may expand to a full silk shawl, as carefully wrapped as any designer cut.
A scarf is essential for the timeless leather jacket, too. Oh yes,it's handy in the damp chill of the darker months. Travellers worried about fitting in should stop first at a fancy department story or the Monoprix around the corner to pick out something snazzy, then look around the streets to see how its worn. It's a souvenir that will last. |
I am SO glad I found some DARK, COMFORTABLE shoes to replace the white running shoes I was forced to wear (foot problem) for several years! And I've been buying a scarf here and there. Now, except for the big camera, map, and puzzled looks I will blend in!
This is great, thank you for doing this. You really got a good variety of subjects. |
This is one reason why I love Paris---jeans, a cool jacket, and a fabulous scarf. For dinner anywhere, Black! I can go to fabulous places in black slacks(cut perfectly and expensive of course), a beautiful black top, with a gorgeous scarf, pin, or jewelery. What does this mean? Carry-on, no check-thru, no waiting.
After years of traveling with too many bags, ours were lost, and I managed in France for 2 weeks with just a carry-on(I do pack my carry-on well). Since then I like the freedom of less to choose from. These photos from keroac affirm my decision. Nobody cares what you wear---just look presentable. |
I noticed that in the first batch of pictures the boots were lower-heeled and looked more comfortable. Then there was another group where the heels were higher and the people seemed to be wearing business attire. Then a group of people wearing white sneakers. It looked really cold out. The few women not wearing heavy tights with their skirts made me feel cold on their behalf. And look at all those jeans! Those yellow pants defy comment.
|
And just in case there's an impromptu funeral, we'll all be ready.
|
Yes, bluzmama, the first batch of photos (taken from above) are the people in my neighborhood, which is not a big area of office workers -- or at least not fancy offices. People dress much more for comfort.
In my office neighborhood, most of the women have a second pair of shoes (or more) at work to get out of those boots! |
Love it! Hope you'll do it again in April for Spring! Thanks.
|
These photo threads are so great, even if they don't surprise me. Well maybe some of the high heels surprise me. I have never understood the reason that they exist.
|
"I confess that I had no intention of doing such a thread again, but since there have been specific requests"
kerouac, a lot of us enjoy this kind of thread, please don't stop doing it. I just got home from Paris and I am so depressed! I want to be back soon. Thanks again for taking the time to indulge us. |
