Paris: Rugby World Cup

Paris in September is hosting the 5th Rugby World Cup, the ruggers equivalent of Football's (Soccer) World Cup at the striking Stade de France just north of Paris.

the implications for travelers range from a run on hotel rooms and full trains on Eurostar from London (if going in Sept be sure to book now for cheapest fares - RailEurope has issued a warning about trains being full during the cup - not only Eurostar but trains to paris.

I have everything booked except my London to Paris Eurorail ticket. I am owed a free Eurostar ticket but am told I can not claim it until three weeks before my trip (October 1st). Do you think there would be space left on an October 1 evening train if I wait until September 1oth to book? October one is a monday.

This is the only opportunity I will have to claim my free Eurostar ticket, but don't want to miss my trip to Paris either.

There is no match in Paris or Saint Denis on October 1st. In fact, it's the day after the first pool matches end, so the rush will be in the opposite direction -- until the following weekend.

The day of the final match in Paris is on Oct. 20, so it's not just Sept. travel that's affected.

I had better luck finding a hotel room in a 2 star rather than a 3; as someone mentioned here, agencies probably bought up blocks of the better hotels in advance.
