Joan, I just want to tell you that we too are hooked on Paris Perfect. After our stay in Volnay, I came home and purchased a bedspread somewhat like the one they had in the bedroom. We really liked their decor.

We had done a home exchange in Hampstead Heath in London for the first 2 weeks. Therefore, we felt we could splurge on one of PP rentals. It was well worth it!!

jrecm,

Madelyn does such a great jo. She is a very talented gal. You must have noticed the tassels? I have added some tassels here. I have had many comments on the.

I was glad this thread was brought up for me to get such a bargain on tickets for next fall!

Once you have stayed in a Paris Perfect apartment, it spoils you for anything else! I have not seen anything that compares with them.

a bientot...

Thank you Cafegoddess. I appreciate the info on Romanee. Before booking friends had told us to beware of renting apartments in Europe as "the real thing wont look anything like the pictures." So I appreciate any words to make us more confident about our decision. PP have been wonderful to communicate with so far.
As for Christian Constant's restaurant, reservations needed? I do love heavenly mashed potatoes, so you have peaked my interest.

Joan,
We will only be in Paris for a week, then we would like to see the country a bit and head south. If you have any suggestions, I am certainly listening.

Daria,
If anything the PP apartments are even better than the lovely pictures show them to be! This is not often the case. They might have looked that way"once upon a time"! PP apartments are continually being re-decorated etc.

The Constant restaurants, as noted in my above post, will need reservations for two of them and early arrival at the two who do not take reservations.

There are so many places to go if you are "heading south". I will be taking a little 3 nights away from Paris. I have a very special place, to me, in Les Baux www.riboto-de-taven.fr
A beautiful spot as you can see from their website. A beautiful area, the Alpilles! I have a great fondness for it. The tourist attraction is beautiful..after the day tourists have gone! The area has many Roman ruins, quaint villages, great dining. I am taking the TGV down to Avignon..a little over two hours..pick up my car and drive the short distance to Les Baux. I will spend 3 nights and then return to Paris.

So, I would say, firm up your reservation for the lovely Romanee, and take a look at some options for "heading south"..

a bientot..

I called Delta today to ask how I could buy from the 1800flyeurope site Delta tickets for $300 less than Delta. Simple, they buy blocks of tickets and sell at whatever price they choose!

I have a Delta Itinerary # that is on the Delta website. I have all my seats confirmed. I will receive some 12000 FF miles due to a promotion for purchasing tickets at this time.

I am pleased!!

The place in Les Baux looked amazing. Unfortunately they do not welcome children under 10. Thank you again for all your advice.

Daria,

They are probably not set up for young children. Some are just not.

I did want you to see the pictures on the website of the area. It is truly beautiful.

There are plenty of places for families, too. It is a great area for children.

I hope you are all settled with your reservations in Paris now, and can work on some of the others.

Daria,

The Romanee is exactly the same,if not better. The view of the Eiffel Tower from the dining table is incredible! There is a boulangerie right outside the gate of the apartment complex and a couple of cafes. Rue Cler is nearby as well as a couple of grocery stores. They provide guide books, and DVDs for adult and children.

There were days I didn't want to leave the apartment because it was beautiful, comfortable and soooo Parisian! If you have anymore questions about Romanee, let me know.

Have a great trip!

Joan,

Am I reading these postings correctly - do you live in Asheville, NC??

I live in Raleigh, NC and am planning a 10-day trip to Paris starting 10/15/09. Are any of the apartments you have stayed in been very close to ru Cler?

I want to know what kind of job you have that allows you to travel so much! Sign me up, please! Have laptop...will travel!

Daria,
We have stayed at the PP Romanee and it is truly a very lovely property. You will enjoy staying there as you can take your children to play in the Champs de Mars, there is a bakery and small green grocer near and a friendly brassiere. Also if you want to go to Les Baux, try Le Cabro D'Or which is in the same area as gracejoan's favorite place. Have a great time planning and then enjoy your trip.

sherrync,

Yes, I live in Asheville. Great place.

Yes, there are apartments all around the r. Cler area. Pomerol is on corner of r. Cler and Grenelle, Syrah is on r. Cler, Moulin-a-Vent is on Champ-du-Mars 1/2 block from r. Cler...all those in the Bourdonnais/St. Dominique area are very near r. Cler..Grenache is on r. Jean-Nicot..

Enjoy your planning..looking..

Thank you Ms. Laidback. Sounds great.
Joan, I have an old friend in Asheville. Wendy N. if you know someone with that name.
We dont need our own car in Paris, right? Rent bicycles?

No, you don't drive in Paris! Yes, there are many bicycle rentals. You can walk to so many, many places. The bus system is wonderful when you are going farther than you want to walk. There is also the metro. Paris is very easy to navigate.

No, I'm afraid I don't know a Wendy N. I'm sure she is happy living in Asheville.

Hope you are gettting all your plans together.

Hi Joan,
Do you have any first-hand info. on the Pinot apartment? That's the one we've chosen for our week in May. We stayed in Cabernet the last time we rented from PP and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Cafegoddess, I share your sentiments about not wanting/needing to leave these lovely apartments some days. EJ

elsiejune,

I have not been in the Pinot. I know the location, which is great. I'm sure you know it, too. It has the nice balcony..they can be hard to come by. Can't for get the ET, too!

I know about not wanting to leave. Also, Stu and Ellen Dudley stayed in the Champagne (which many say, must be the best 1 B/R in Paris) and they really did not like to leave the apt. because they enjoyed it so much. They are now excited, as they have rented it for a period of time in Dec. I will be there at that time, too. Some other "friends" will probably rent it just ahead of Stu and Ellen. They like to be there at the same time as the boat show. I will get to see them, too.

I will be there til May 13th..looking for an early Spring. Paris deserves it, this year!

Thanks, Joan. Sorry that our dates don't mesh (28 May - 4 June), as we would have loved to meet you. I'm hoping some Fodorites will be able to meet for a GTG during our week. Guess there's time yet to send out feelers. Of course, we'll all look forward to your spring "travelblog" in the meantime. EJ

Joan, on March 5 I posted looking for an apartment that I saw on Fodors last year. Today I have found thanks to this thread, it is Champagne. I knew there was a balcony, what a lovely apartment. I want to rent one for my husband and I on our next trip. We have stayed in the 1st and 6th many times, never in an apartment. Thank you so much for all this information. I hope it is not booked for the entire year. Have a wonderful holiday.

gracejoan, are you fluent in French? And were you, by any chance, in Paris last summer at the time of the Fete de la Musique? I am asking because my daughter and I were in a cafe on rue Cler that afternoon and a very lovely American woman and her companion came to find a table. The cafe was crowded and there was no table available, but this woman used her perfect French to convince a server (no, it would be better to say that she charmed the server) into setting up a table for her and her friend. I remember the incident so well because I am studying French, and I thought, "I would like to be able to do that someday".

In any case, the grace and charm with which she accomplished her goal, for some reason, just reminded me of your gracious and charming posts.
