Like Willy Wilson and several of the other guests who've stayed at the Paris Perfect apartments, I want to add my words of HIGHEST PRAISE for the quality of service offered by Madelyn and Philippe, owners of these lovely apartments.

To date, I have stayed in THREE of these apartments, in various locations around the 7th, and they are ALL LOVELY APARTMENTS.

More importantly, there is NOTHING that you need that you cannot ask of these two owners. Like Mr. Wilson, I communicated with Madelyn several times on the phone prior to my first visit. I discovered that she was American, and knowing what American travelers were searching for, she has made every effort to make one's stay in Paris as enjoyable and memorable as possible and succeeds every step of the way.

The apartments are very well stocked, well maintained, and very nicely furnished with several pieces of antique furniture.

In response to wishiwasthere's comment about having to turn off the heat each time she ventured out, I am not sure where she got this impression that this was a requirement. Upon booking the apartment, one is sent a huge package of information which contains detailed instructions on the operation of all appliances, including heat, washer/dryer, stove, as European appliances often operate very differently from what we are accustomed to in the U.S. Instructions for use are also posted on each appliance (I assume this is in case one forgets to read the information package sent when one books accommodation). However, I did not see - either in the information packet, or anywhere in any of the apartments, any such information that ONE IS REQUIRED TO TURN OFF THE HEAT WHEN LEAVING THE APARTMENT.

Reference is made once in the information packet to a previous guest who left the windows open while running the heat during the dead of winter and the owners were stuck with a bill of $500 for that month. The information was given to alert the guest not to leave the heat or A/C running with windows/doors open - just as one would expect in one's own home.

Your statement that you had to "crane" your neck to see the tower is also quite amazing. As the pictures show at the website, one can literally see the tower from any of the two windows in the living area WITHOUT ANY EFFORT AND THIS WHILE SEATED IN THE LIVING ROOM SOFAS. I have several pictures that were taken while seated in the couch and they are very clear views of the tower.

Regarding the smells...it would have been quite simple enough to contact either Madelyn or Philippe, their local representative, or the cleaning lady and her husband who live within five minutes of the apartment to notify them if you were experiencing some unpleasant smell in the apartment. Seems such a pity that you didn't because I feel sure they would have taken care of whatever was causing this unpleasant smell - or probably even moved you into another apartment if this was a severe enough problem.

They are very accommodating to their guests and it appears to me that their motto is that "the guest is their first priority". In fact, in one of my stays, I contacted Madelyn via phone without knowing that she was away with her family on vacation. She e-mailed me FROM GREECE to give me the required information, and when I responded via e-mail apologizing for disturbing her vacation, she was very adamant in stating that I should not hesitate to contact her for ANYTHING as her goal was for all her guests to have a GREAT EXPERIENCE, the Paris Perfect experience, which is exactly what we did.

I would not visit Paris without staying in one of these Paris Perfect apartments, and I will be going back again, and again.

For those of you who have already booked for the next few months or are thinking of booking in the future, it is well worth the money to stay in one of these apartments. Philippe and Madelyn are two of the most gracious hosts I have encountered in many years of travelling and you definitely get far more than your money's worth when you stay in one of their apartments.

Call me suspicious if you want, but I find it amazing that this person "unforgettable" had never, ever made a post here before, yet took the time to register just to make this long, long, rave about the apartments. Where did you find this site, unforgettable? And why did you find it so important just to register to rave about these apartments. Forgive me for being suspicious, but can you blame me?

Isn't it sad that this person didn't experience a single attraction or restuarant or cafe or museum in all of Paris worth mentioning, but simply registered here to rave about the apartments. Seems kind of fishy to me.
I can only wonder which of the two, Madelyn or Phillipe this poster really is.

Yes, CallgirlSusan, I do call you suspicious. After reading your comments about ParisPerfect apartments and other reviewers, I read all your other postings (there were many) and found them to be largly negative with an undertone that is apparently meant to boost elevated feeling of self-importance. Have you stayed in a ParisPerfect apartment? You do know that other people have also traveled extensively, don't you?

My wife and I have just returned from a delightful two weeks in the Chardonnay apartment. We found the apartment well furnished in every way and can't think of anything Madelyn and Philippe could have done to make our stay more pleasant. They made arrangements for us to be met at the airport and returned at the end of our stay. The housekeeper, Nancy, met us at the apartment with two sets of keys, guided us throught the apartment and explained the operation of all the appliances, although that was unnecessary since the appliances were all well marked. Friends who visited the apartment during our stay were also impressed with the comfort and location of the apartment as compared with the apartment they were renting.

During same two weeks last year, my wife and I stayed in an apartment in the sixth. The apartment, while rented by a reputable company, was not in the same league with ParisPerfect, and in my opinion the seventh exceeds the sixth as a desirable location. I have visited two other ParisPerfect apartments and found them to be equal to Chardonnay in quality.

Last year I had rented an apartment from ParisPerfect and Madelyn contacted me well ahead of our departure to inform me that she had just learned that the building was to be reroofed during our stay. As her other apartments were rented, she offered our money back or to let us stay in the apartment at a reduced rate. I choose to go to another apartment and regretted it. I would rather have stayed in Madelyn's apartment with workers on the roof.

For those of you who have questioned the photographs on the website, the pictures are as accurate as a picture can be. Everything will be as neat and attractive when you arrive as they are in the photographs.

The timing of my next trip to Paris will revolve around the availiability of a ParisPerfect apartment.

Calgirl, let me assure you that I am NEITHER Madelyn NOR Phillipe, but a very, very satisfied customer of Paris Perfect apartments. I don't usually spend my time posting at websites, but when I am about to make trips, I do searches to get information on the places that I am going to visit, as was the case when I found ParisPerfect.com.

In visiting the Fodors site for information on another European city which I plan to visit this summer, I found this chatboard, and noticing the comments on Paris Perfect, decided to add my comments, particularly when I saw the negative comments made by one poster.

I was simply adding my voice to the others such as Willy Wilson's, parisdemain, francophile and others like myself who had great experiences in these apartments.

Regarding your comment that you thought it was "sad" that I didn't enjoy any of the museums, etc. I did indeed. After three trips to Paris, I've visited many restaurants, museums, palaces, famous people's houses, etc., but that was not the question being asked. The initial thread of this message was regarding Paris Perfect Apartments, and that being the question, that is what I responded to.

My LONG e-mail was simply because I am a very long-winded person..that's my nature, and that's why the e-mail's so lengthy. I don't like to skip details and would rather include EVERYTHING than skip ANYTHING.

But if you are still skeptical about the fact that I am in fact a real person (other than Philippe or Madelyn, the owners) and wish to verify that I did in fact stay in three of their apartments on separate occasions, please feel free to contact me (or anyone else who is thinking of visiting Paris Perfect) directly via e-mail. My e-mail address is [email protected]. If you contact me via e-mail and are further interested in speaking to me, I would be happy to give you my phone number(s) in Dallas if you wish to speak with me in person to verify that I do in fact exist and am NOT the owners of these apartments. As a matter of fact, I am of Caribbean descent (Jamaican) so if you do call to speak to me you will definitely be able to tell that I am not Madelyn (who is American) nor Philippe (who is French).

You can also view a posting by me at the ParisPerfect website under "Feedback" if you wish to see other comments I've made regarding my stay at Bordeaux.

Happy trails to you and everyone else, because that's what it's all about!

I am sure the Parisperfect apartments are great, but I notice that the Champagne, which was mentioned favourably above, charges $265 a night to sleep 2 to 4!!! That's about 250 euros, isn't it? Well, that's what we're paying in mid-June for FOUR nights in an apartment for four people (in the 10th A.) which we booked through another site, www.beau-paris.com. Of course, it may not be quite up to the standard of parisperfect, but in a half-week we still have $800 in our pocket! Are we being naive to think this is a better deal.... has anyone had any experiences with beau-paris?

The cost is probably alot cheaper because the 10th dist. is not as popular as the 7th.

Alan, there are a lot of reasons why the apt. you rented is cheaper than Parisperfect.

First is the location -- the 10th is farther out and more inconvenient, espec that location near the NE edge. Also, that area is much cheaper real estate than the 7th, which is one of the most expensive arr. to buy apts. The 7th is a rather upscale area with a lot of British and American expats, and the 10th is more working-class, ethnic.

The apt. you rented is very small for four people (less than 400 sq ft) and is basically only one main room with a bed put on a platform over the sofa (which may be smaller than fullsize, it doesn't say). The WC and shower (no tub) are in two different locations (which isn't that uncommon in older Parisian apts). There is no washer/dryer. Also, it is on the ground floor, it appears, as it says "main floor". Those are less desirable and have cheaper rent.

So, did you get a better deal? I also think Parisperfect apts are overpriced by my stds, and I probably wouldn't choose one, but there are many many other apts for comparison as to price than that one. I don't think you got a better deal myself -- but that isn't a valid comparison ($60 to $265 a day), as I said, there is a middle ground which is what I look for. For example, I just rented from Locaflat at about $130 a day for a place larger than yours with a real seperate bedroom and in a good location near rue Mouffetard, not on the ground floor, with balcony and elevator. However, you've seen all the features I mentioned about the beauparis place and it looked good to you, so for you it is a better deal and that's what counts.

I noticed some comments on the price of the Paris Perfect apartments. I can understand why some people would find Paris Perfect too much to spend, but let's face it, Paris is an expensive city. Always has been, always will be. There are plenty of choices.

On to a story about Paris Perfect.

A few months ago I e-mailed Madelyn with some apprehensions about air conditioning. I have multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system. Heat interferes with the ability of nerves to conduct impulses, and hot weather can be tough on an MS patient.

Madelyn replied that the weather almost certainly wouldn't be a problem. Paris just doesn't get very hot at the time we're going (second week in July), she said. I responded that this was fine by me. I frankly don't like A/C very much. I only use it when I have to.

Well, about a month ago I got an e-mail from Madelyn saying that she and Philippe had bought a portable A/C unit and were having exhaust holes drilled into the exterior walls. In Paris, I'll bet this cost them a small fortune!

The way I see it, they didn't have to do this but they did it anyway. In my book, that is called a "good deed." I really appreciate it, and I think it speaks volumes about them and about Paris Perfect. I will really look forward to our visit in July.

Merci beaucoup, Paris Perfect! You're the greatest!

We were very tempted by one of their apts with a view of the Eiffel Tower for Sept but the dates didn't work out for this trip. Their correspondance with us was extremely prompt and Madelyne even send a nice E-mail back when I explained that we couldn't rent this year. The pictures of their apts [and their attractive website] make most of the others in Paris look grim. Do wish that they cost a little less though.

This entire thread looks like a thinly veiled attempt at advertising.

I dealt with someone else for an apartment and paid a good deal less than the prices ballyhooed on this thread. This is my experience:

I had an excellent experience dealing with Pascal Zytomirski.

Here are the apartments he rents:

One bedrooms :
75 Bd Malesherbes, 4 people, in the 8th district, Madeleine Opera area, Metro St Augustin
24 rue des Vertus, 4 people, in the 3rd district, in Le Marais, Metro Arts et Metiers
11 rue de la Huchette, 4 people, in the 5th, Metro St Michel in the Latin quarter.

Studios:
11 rue Duvivier, Studio for 2 in the 7th district, MEtro Ecole Militaire.
24 rue Xavier Privas, Studio for 4 in the 5th district, metro St Michel, in the latin quarter
37 rue de la Harpe, Studio for 4 in the 5th district, metro St Michel in the latin quarter

You can email Pascal at [email protected]

Pascal acts as the rental agent for all the owners. He will meet you at the apartment with the keys after you arrive in Paris.

I rented the apartment at 11 rue Duvivier and was very satisfied. Apartment rentals work best if you are staying longer than a week. My apartment was quiet and totally modernized with a washer/dryer. The cost was much less than a hotel room would have been for a lot more space.

I need to reply to LaurenSKahn.

I'm not doing any "advertising" for Paris Perfect. This is a travel board where, presumably, people share their experiences for the benefit of others. Before even arriving in Paris, I have been treated with warmth, grace and kindness by the proprietors of that establishment and I really appreciate it.

Lauren, you and I don't know each other. Before I was disabled by MS, I had been a real road-warrior. You may rest assured that if I had a complaint about Paris Perfect or anyone else, you'd find it here. But the world doesn't run on complaints alone. Let's hope it the phrase, "Thank you for a job well done" never goes out of style.

For spring break this year, we took the kids to France for 10 days (Paris, Bayeux, MSM, Dinan). We started our trip in Paris and stayed at the Champagne apartment, arriving the day before the Iraqi war broke out and I've been meaning to post an entry about what a wonderful experience we had at the apartment. We are a family of 4, with our 2 sons, ages 8 and 11 and staying at the apartment was a great way for a family to enjoy Paris. The apartment was very comfortable (in fact the bed was one of the best I've slept in), and Madelyn & Philipe were wonderful. It was great to have their taxi man, George, meet us at the airport and we were able to get into the apartment as soon as we arrived. The neighborhood was great; my husband made quick friends with the wine guy 2 doors down and we had a memorable dinner with "Agnes" at her restaurant around the corner. We loved seeing the Eiffel Tower from the dining room table, and when we visited the Tower, we could even zoom right down to the balcony of the apartement with the video camera! This was my 4th trip to Paris, having stayed in a variety of hotels. The information packet was incredible. From now on, I will stay at one of parisperfect apartments!

Right on Leeb! We just returned from our 6 nights in Cabernet. Our 2nd trip to Paris and it came at the end of our 3 week vacation so an apartment was jsut what we wanted. Loved the neightborhood and all the shops and restaruants. We so enjoyed our dealings with Madelyn and Philipe. Our apartment was perfect in every way and we have recommended them to others. One of our friends is renting their London Flat and when all the apartments in Paris were booked Madelyn referred my friend to someone else and they were able to secrue another apartment in Paris for their stay there. I only wish they had apartments elsewhere so I could rent from them!

I started another thread about Paris Perfect, so this will be brief. I just got back from Europe, including a week in the new St. Emilion unit from Paris Perfect. It was absolutely magnificent.

And I can report that the person who said they had to crane their neck to see the Eiffel Tower from the Bordeaux unit must have a medical condition. I had dinner with Madelyn and Philippe and some other guests in one of their other units in the same building as Bordeaux. The Eiffel Tower dominates the skyline at that point.

Neighborhoods of Paris ... what's better or best, who knows? All I can say is that we were insanely happy with Paris Perfect, including the location of the apartment.

These units are not for budget travelers. St. Emilion rents for $450 a night and the others are no less than $250 or so. Cheaper places abound, but you get what you pay for. You're better off comparing Paris Perfect to a suite in a top-notch hotel.

In return for being your own maid and not having room service and the other hotel stuff, you get far more space plus a kitchen. I have traveled all over the world and think Paris Perfect is an outstanding value.

Good luck for those who want Paris Perfect on Oct. or when ever...

I just tried and sadly they were all booked except the largest (and most $) one.

Has anyone found anything as comparable to these? They look very clean! and comfy?

I have searched through the wedsites onthe thread and imo they dont look as nice.

Any suggestions? Looking for accomodations for 3 adults for about a week in October.

Help Willy_Wilson!!!

Oh, here's another I'd bookmarked. The 3rd bed is a convertible sofa, but it's such a fabulous location I thought I'd mention it.

It's on Rue Maitre Albert, Left Bank, right at Notre Dame cathedral. I stayed in a hotel on this little street and I'd bet this apartment is no more than 50 feet from the Seine. Great location, safe street, fabulous access to the Iles and central Paris locations.

How interesting that you post about this particular apartment, Jeanne. I had looked at this also for next year and went by it three or four times. My concerns about it are these: first, it is not air-conditioned, a definite problem in July or August. Secondly, it is above that restaurant which has been totally gutted and is supposedly being redone, but in the entire week we never saw any work being done. Does this mean they are likely to be pounding and working on it when we would rent it?

Has anyone stayed at the Kir apartment from parisperfect? I know it's tiny but there are just 2 of us, and the location is great.

Thanks in advance,

Patrick:

Are you talking about the one on Rue Maitre Albert? I didn't even notice the A/C...I like fall and winter travel.

I thought the 1st floor setting would be ideal, but that might not be the case if they're banging away downstairs. When we were there in November that street was very quiet, but we were in the "crook" where it turns toward Blvd. St. Germaine. Did you notice whether street noise from the quay would be a problem? (I'm assuming the apartment is right at the end of the street, across from the Seine.)

If you find out more information please keep me updated. Thanks.
