raceloughren, do you remember which terminal that was? (Or which airline you took would also be helpful.) That sounds like an awfully long time to get through the airport! And as they say, forewarned is forearmed... Thanks!

>>Well we are definitely keeping Paris and hope to fly into Amsterdam, take a train to Paris and then another to Germany. We'll fly out of Munich, I hope. I'm allowing five nights for Paris. <<
If the airfare issue wasn't an issue, I think your itinerary sounds ideal. BUT, because you are airfare shopping, keep in mind a few ideas. Air France is one of the more aggressive pricers for travel to the US so occasionally, a really good deal will pop up for travel through CDG, - may even want to check out the Air france website - and in spite of the whining, the problems with CDG are not so bad that you want to turn your back on a good deal. Secondly, try to include other German cities in your searches. Most of the time it is "mox nix" which German city you leave from, but sometimes you can get a better deal out of Frankfurt or Cologne than Munich ( and sometimes Munich is the best deal) Confused enough?
Last year at this time I was in your shoes and I found myself getting more and more frustrated at the lack of deep discounts on airfare that we finally decided to can our plans for summer '05 and went instead for Spring Break '06, when I got $400pp, r/t through CDG. Each year is different, but I suspect the $800 price range is going to be as good as you'll get for this summer, sorry if I'm wrong. Also, make sure you clear off your cookies from the computer periodically. Some of the search engines will see that you are price shopping and not display their best deal. They want to give good deals to first time shopppers and try to win your loyalty. So by clearing the cookies, you'll "look" like a first time shopper. Good Luck!

Good tips, docdan. Our trip is in late September. We checked with the AA miles program and found that we can use them for this trip, so that might be our best deal. I have to wait a few more weeks until this next trip to get those needed miles, then we can decide. I will also check out Air France and delete, delete, delete those cookies!
