Hi jdan,
Just came back from Paris yesterday. I saw posters about Pope Benedict XVI visit (Sep 12-13). If you will visit Paris at the same time check this link http://www.catholicnews.com/data/sto...ns/0802367.htm for the information about Pope’s schedule.

Looks like we'll miss the Pope in Paris by about 1 day - we will be there Tues night Sept 16 to Thur morning Sept 18.
Yes, I think msackton has hit it near exactly.
Were it me, I would much more walking, but I have others to consider who are less willing, so I better balance it with walking when there are specific things to see, and save the feet, patience and time otherwise. So the less walking alternative wins, and I think the itinerary is nearly perfect.
I'd like to see the Pantheon, and so I may do the Tuesday "walking" itinerary myself, and meet the others at Notre Dame as they do the "less walking" Tuesday itineray, to watch the sunset together on the Seine, and see Notre Dame in the evening.
Wednesday, we'll likely hang around Montemarte/Sacre Couer for sunset.
Somehow I'd like to squeeze in the Eiffel tower in twilight, but if I want to see Notre Dame one evening, and Sacre Coeur the other evening, it doesn't look like there will be enough evenings. But I can return to Eiffel at night for a night view.
But about 3 weeks later we will be back in Paris for a night while in-transit from Rome to the US, arriving at about 5:30pm, and leaving the next morning at 10:30am. But that night we will be at the Holiday Inn near the airport rather than "in town".
But there might be just enough time to catch the metro or RER in to town to see the Eiffel tower for the sunset and twilight, which ought to be stunning.
Sunset for that day will be at 7:20pm. That is a bit less than 2 hours from arrival till sunset. Twilight will extend for perhaps 45 min longer I suppose. Is it possible to make it in this little time?
