Joan, i've been lurking here for a number of years and have enjoyed your posts enormously. Will be arriving in Paris October 30th, departing Nov 11. Staying at the Hotel de France {thank you St.Cirq , this will be my fourth stay there, all due to your rec
ommendation.}
The reason I am a lurker rather than a contributor is ,I think, obvious.
I not a typist!
I do plan to stay in in an apartment next spring....a Paris Perfect apartment.I have been studying the website for some time and of course receive their emails.
Thank you all for your advise and usefull information.
I will try to post my impressions and experiences on this trip as an appreciation for all the help and and advise I have garnered over the years. ..Again, thank you so much for everything...Vicki

I have had fun in contributing whatever for fellow travellers.

It is fun to share our experiences, our "finds" and the whole adventure of it all.

Some of the joy is the sharing of what we each, as individuals, enjoy. We can't all like the same things, places, areas or dining. I hope that I do not come across that "my" way is the "only" way. Nice to be able to pick and choose from the suggestions from everyone.

I have a busy last few days..Les Ambassadeurs for brunch today, La Regalade for dinner tomorrow, joining friends for lunch in Montmartre on Tues. and my French friends coning in to spend the night Tues. and some people associated with our embassy joining us for dinner at Les Fables de la Fontaine ( and who knows what following dinner), Wed. it is Les Papilles for dinner, Thursday back to Spring for lunch. Then I will pack and Robertal and her group may drop by my apt....may have to take them to Cafe Max!!

My driver is to pick me up at 6:30 am on Friday to head homeward...

I am returning mid April for another month in Paris!!

a bientot.....

Joan

Have a safe trip home, Joan. I, too, have thoroughly enjoyed your posts. We are staying in the Paris Perfect Moulin-a-Vent from Nov. 2 to Nov. 9. I will certainly try out your various restaurant suggestions! (BTW, what part of the world do you live in?)

Abbeau,

You will enjoy the apt. If you cook, you will enjoy the kitchen! too many good restaurantas for me.

Walk down a few blocks to Flirt'The
3 ave. Duquesne for breakfast. Tell Florent that Joan sent you!!

Just walk over to rue St. Dominique for all the Constant restaurants and you will be well taken care of..closed on Sunday and some on Monday..common here.

I live in Asheville, NC..another nice place in the world!

Enjoy your planning..that is half the fun...

Returned a bit ago from brunch at Les Ambassadeurs (Crillon). This is the way to go on a Sunday. Lovely, in every way, beginning with your Taittinger (of course) champagne.

Surprised to see Catherine and Christian Constant waiting to go in, too. Christian says that he see me everyplace!! Told them that I had stumped Nicholas at Cafe Constant last night when I asked who I needed to talk with to get a Cafe Constant apron. They would have to order one, but Catherine would mail to me...I said I would pick in up in Avril!!

I later noticed a birthday cake being delivered to Catherine! I came home and sent her a Jacquie Lawson birthday card.

Christian visited with all at Les A, who know and adore him, for some time. I guess he must have told the Maitre D something about me, as he said that Christian said that I was every place! Nice people.

It is not nice out. Very windy. I don't think I will go out again. Good night to stay in.........

a bientot......Joan

Salut Joan,
Isn't it nice to start off a day with champagne? Your brunch sounded wonderful. We are spending one day in Reims next week and intend to drink (um, I guess taste?)champagne quite a bit while we're there.

Now for a frivolous question: We're can we get a great croque madame? Do you think FlirtThe might make them or do you suggest some other place?

Roberta,

I went to Flirt'The for my petite dejeuner and then stopped by the marche. I bought a 2007 Morgon and some pistaches (bag label)....do you think you gals can handle that?

Robertal,

Wait til you see my elevator!! There are small elevators, but this is much smaller than small. Unless you are 3 very skinny gals, you will never make it together! If you have a camera, you may want a picture. Don't know how you could do it, though.

Knock on my door...the doorbell is very soft..

Hi Joan,
Hope you are enjoying your last week in Paris - damn sure you are!
hope you get a chance to tell me about my question on the Brasserie at 23 Champs du Mars & Bosquet?

You wanted to know how often I come to Paris - well, almost every year now. Either May or late September/Oct. I have made a tentative plan to come to Paris for a two week spell in Late October 2009 and until about 11th November.
It is going to be a photographic holiday for my DH but I will lead him to all the fab Autumn leaves! Ha Ha!!

Have a great last week in Paris!

Oh, RobertaL - About the Croque Madame. Basically it is a Croque Monsieur with an egg added.
I think every corner cafe` serves it but we had a Fodorites GTG at Cafe Deux Margots about 3 years ago and two of the ladies ordered Croque Madames. OK, but nothing served there will send you into orbit anyway.

Joan:

In my next life I think I want to come back as you!

Yes, I have stayed at the Hotel de l'Abbaye before and it is a great place. I particularly like it when the weather is warm and the patio is open. The caveat here is to book a "large" room.

Earlier this year I stayed at the Verneuil- standard rooms are tiny but the place oozes charm. Fortunately, I booked a deluxe and it was well worth the extra $ to have the added space.

Enjoy the rest of your stay. You will need to go back to N.C. and take to your bed......

We went to La Regalade for dinner. Took thge 28 bus both ways. La Regalade was not as good as last time, but it may be because I ordered pigeon!

Not bad out weatherwise.

Tod I will check it out..what do you want to know about it? Just if it looks OK. You didn't want me to try it out, did you??

Weekender, the l'Abbaye is a nice hotel..yes, ask for a larger room. I have not stayed at the Verneuil, but have friends who stayed there..yes, charm..also the larger room.

The month is running out, but look forward to April!! Hate to think of the mail..don't want to look at stock portfolio...nothing I can do about it, anyway! Dividends are going to be affected. Air and half of lodging already taken care of for April/May. Will need to take a harder look at fall of 2009. Guess we all are doing that.

Busy, busy here til I leave!

We have had a great group posting on this thread. I hope all have had as much fun with it as I have..we can do it again in the Spring!

a bientot,

Joan

Lilia,

So glad to see your post.

Elle has been enjoying our adventures, I do believe. I told her that she has to post to the little forum. She will. Something simple.

May get some nice friends to join for "Spring" in the spring! Wish you were going to be here to do it again. We did enjoy it together. A small group is nicer. Will see.

a bientot new friend,

Joan

If you scroll back on your posts you will see I asked whether you could tell me the name, and that the terrace looks quite nice on the PagesJaunes PhotosdeVille. No, don't try it - just the name will do. Thanks!
