Paris Meetup Groups?

I just ran across a mention of the "Paris Meetup Groups" on another Forum, so I Googled them. Sounds interesting at first blush. Has anyone had any experience with them:

I'm curious about which of those groups interests you?

Well, Adrienne, certainly the "Affordable Yoga in Paris" group does not turn me on, the "OutParis" group holds no attractions, and the F@#$Up Paris Nights" group sounds really weird, but there are so many other groups to choose from. I haven't looked at them all, but the "La Vie Parisienne" guided tours with French cultural themes might be worth a go.

Anyway, just more things to add to my overflowing Parisian bucket list.

Well, nukesafe, you gave me a chuckle! Based on the photo from that group I'd be interested in what type of culture you'd be getting.

You might be interested in the Paris Greeter Service - local guides showing you their Paris quartier.

Well, Adrienne, hope springs eternal for "cultural" experiences, even for old farts like me. The DW might not approve, however.

I did not see the Paris Greeters on the web page, but I can vouch for them. We arranged a tour through them a few years ago when we went to Paris with another couple. Our most knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide took us on a tour of her neighborhood of Belleville/Menilmontant that was a delightful revelation. We saw things and area that almost no "regular" tourist ever gets to see. Simply a wonderful afternoon!

There is no cost, and the guides will accept no tips. They do it for the love of sharing their part of the town they love. It is expected, though, that you make a donation to the organization, to keep it running. I made one when we signed up, and we were so pleased I sent more when we got home.

A "donaton" this is expected to keep a business running is just a business fee.

Very interesting list of groups, I'm bookmarking this site.

The "F@#$Up Nights Paris" is not what you might suppose, by the way. Clicking on it reveals that it is a business networking opportunity about entrepreneurship.
