From the 22 September 2010 to January 24 2011, the Grand Palais will be presenting an exhibition of Monet's works. Over 200 works, the first retrospective on Monet to be held in Paris in 30 years. Over 1/2 million visitors are expected.

Not to be outdone, the Marmottan has an exhibit planned from October 6th 2010 to Febraury 20th 2011 of over 300 works (paintings, sketches,etc) which is the almost comp[lete collection donated by Monet's second son Michel.

If anyone is in NYC, the Monet show at Gagosian (yes, Gagosian!) is worth seeing. There was crowd control when I went, however, but the wait wasn't long.

Im hoping to get to NY for the Picasso later in the year.

We had a huge Monet exhibition in London a few years back and it proved so popular they kept it open through the night. Never really understood this Monet obsession myself - much prefer Matisse. The L'orangerie is quite something though.

This has to be something of a once in a lifetime event, all those Monets together at the same time. I'm sort of planning a trip, this might be something to plan a trip around.

Michel - Is the Grand Palais covered by the Paris Museum pass, and is the admission to the Money exhibit over and above the admission price to the museum itself?

Just went to the exhibit last Friday. It was excellent. For those non-French speakers out there, the storyboards in each room were in English, as well as French and Spanish. The audio tour (5 euros) was well worth it.
We purchased our tickets in advance at our hotel for a 3 euro premium, but considering the wait was an hour when we got there and 3 hours when we left, we felt it was money well spent. Enjoy

We attended the Monet exhibition at the Grand Palais last week. If you're a fan, definitely worthy of planning a trip!

More than 200 works collected from major museums all over the world and private collections (so many never seen in all the coffee table books).

Paintings are spaciously displayed with extraordinary lighting.

Advance tickets will likely be absolutely essential. Ours were for opening day, so it wasn't very busy or crowded. But, long winding aisles with ropes are set up for future crowds on the entrance terrace.

As far as I can tell the 5 choices of ticket are 1) simple ticket 2) guided visit 3) children's workshop ( jumble infant) 4) twin ticket with admission to France 1500 exhibit and 5) twin ticket with admission to the Orangerie museum

I was at the Monet exhibit at the Grand Palais last Friday as well. Purchased the tickets online at FNAC and opted to pick them up at one of their stores as two were close to our hotel. They were 13.50€ each with timed entry for 11:00 am. We only had to wait 15 minutes to get in.

I thought it was beautifully done and well organized. Crowded but tolerable with places to sit in several galleries. Small tip, just at the exit is a small gift shop which was swamped. Further along is the main bookstore with the same items and no crowd.

Looking forward to the exhibit at the Grand Palais - we are going next Friday. My FIL, who lives in Paris, ordered tickets online for all of us. He picked 1pm on Friday, thinking the crowds would be lower but who knows!

Does anyone know if there are walk-up tickets for sale? I'm thinking of taking the train to Paris this weekend and there are no more tickets available online.

Michel, I hope that you take this trip...if it were possible for me, I would. From anything that I have read, this is the most complete exhibiion of Monet's works ever. And, with a wee side trip to the Marmottan, it will be complete and exquisite.
