My friend lives in London and I am going to visit him in the spring time... that means we want to go to Paris...

What is the best- To fly to Paris and take the train to London and then fly home (NYC). Is that the best $$ wise and time?

How many days in Paris do you think I shoudl stay for...

You say "We want to go to Paris," but you also say "How many days do you think I should stay for?" Does the "we" refer to you and your London friend or to you and someone who will be traveling with you from New York?

How many days to allot to Paris depends upon what your interests are, what your "must-sees" are, and whether or not you want to allow time to take one or more day trips outside the city.

In any case booking a Eurostar (Chunnen Train) ducat as early as possible can literally save $100 or more - check out www.eurostar.com for fares in British pounds - try to plan for a journey during mid-week when the cheaper of these Byzantine pricing structures are more available.

Your airfare will be cheaper if you fly into London, take the train to Paris, and fly home from Paris. UK departure taxes/fees are much higher so if you have the flexibility, you should try to avoid flying out of a UK airport

I found resaonable priced fares on the British Air website for flying into London and out of Paris. It was cheaper to do it that way than to fly in and out of the same city. Weird.
Anyhow, we booked well inadvance and paid about $40 each for Eurostar to Paris. We will stay 2 nights in London and 6 in Paris because we are Paris addicts.

Have your London friend visit you in Paris and skip London all together!

Paris is OK. But it's not London (France being second rate generally).

But as people are saying, fly to London and back from Paris and take the train inbetween.

Book the train as early as you can as the prices go up the closer to departure you get.

IF the Eurostar trains are running that is - a technology flop - grounded again yesterday i guess after being stopped for about a week because of cool weather at the Calais area Chunnel entrance. Back to the drawing boards for French TGV train tech if they want to see trains to say America or any really cold place.

Yes - you can book these sorts of tix on-line. Choose 'multi city' or similar terminology, depending on which website you are using.

Spend more time in Paris than in London. I would think that you'd get acquainted with London fairly quickly, as your friend lives there and knows his way around. But Paris will be a getaway for both of you. And besides, London is not as unlike NYC as Paris is. Paris will be the real adventure, although London will be fun.
