Hi Fodors community,
My uncle who is from Copenhagen died today. We returned 2 weeks ago from a 3 week visit and were not expecting this to happen so soon.

After the funeral next week, my husband (wheelchair bound) and 84 year old mother (very unsteady on her feet and refuses to use a cane, wheelchair, etc) really need to take a "vacation." Our recent trip was to clear out my uncle's apartment and help him settle into a nursing home. It was very exhausting emotionally and physically from the time we left home.

My mother said that she has always wanted to travel to the south of France.

This email question is about Paris only - will formulate more questions after I have a chance to think.

1) November in Paris - advice - is there anything going on which would make apartment/hotel/dining reservations hard to come by?
2) My husband and I stayed in a Paris Perfect find a year ago, but now mom will be with us and I am afraid that the 2 bedrooms may be too pricy. Please remenber that we have mobility restrictionsand my mother does not appriciate the Paris Perfect $$'s.

Any other advice will be appriciated. We are thinking maybe 1 week in Paris after Copenhagen, 2 weeks in France and then a few days on our way home, which is through Paris.

November is not the busiest month. It isn't as busy as September or October.

You may want something with more character, but all of the Accor hotels (www.accorhotels.com) have rooms for people with mobility problems. I often take my mother around France and other nearby countries to Ibis hotels, but I confess that I have stopped asking for the 'handicapped' rooms because they are always at the end of the longest hallway for some reason -- my mother also refuses a cane or a walker, although she badly needs one. So I just ask for a room across from the elevator, and that is generally just fine.

(Just for information, there are 55 Ibis hotels inside Paris.)

As for paris in November, it is the month I always travel to the city and find it to be lovely. Yes, the weather is changing and can be unpredicatble, but the feeling of Fall can be invigorating. Crowds are fewer as well....making reservations easy.

Please check out the thread Kerouc has posted on the current and pending strikes for the French rail. My guess is you will not be taking the METRO, but if it shut down, cabs may be difficult to find.

Couldn't any centrally located hotel that has an elevator work, if you get two rooms at a nice 3-star?

I am heading off to work, but will read the replies more carefully when I return tonight.

We would "like" to spend under $150. per day per room, thus the possibility of an apartment. The short time frame is making this utmost challenging as I need to work until the day we leave.

Today my mother decided that the trip back to DK would be too hard on her so soon after returning. We will not be travelling, but will instead remember the good time we had on our recent trip visiting with my uncle.
