Paris Las Vegas - How does it compare to the real thing
Ok, I'm sure it pales in comparison, but what did they get right? What was ok, what was crud? I may not get back to the real Paris for a few years and wondered if Paris LV would give me a "fix." Thx.

Hey, Land-locked... I read about a small district in San Francisco that is French-oriented, with hotel(s) run by French persons and small cafes, etc. But even better, you could go to Montreal and stay in the old quarter for a French fix for probably near-same expense as doing Vegas.

Paris Paris is a Las Vegas version of the real thing. You've got:
1) a mini-Eiffel Tower outside
2) attempts at sidewalk cafes inside an airconditioned building with a painted-on sky;
3) fake cobblestone streets with pots of silk geraniums hanging down for window boxes;
4) Attempts at atmosphere with a guy dressed in a striped shirt, vest and beret pedalling a bicycle with baguettes on the back (with a little note saying these are for not for sale, for display only)
5) another guy walking around playing the accordion
6) Loads of tourists walking up and down thinking, "Wow! this must be just like Paris!" and eating ice creams
7) The inescapable noise of the slot machines (one of the worst theme hotels in LV for this)
8) It was all a bit dark and dingy, and hadn't been refurbished for a while.
9) No-one smoking Gauloises or posing perfectly with a cafe/glass of wine/champagne as only the French can do.
It may give you a chuckle and a pain in your wallet especially if you are going gambling, but a "Paris fix"? an emphatic NON!
JJ's Boulangerie & Mon Ami Gabi. Both are good @ lunch & do make an effort (although both menus are crammed w/many non-French dishes). The Bouillibase (I know that is spelled wrong) was good as well as the Croque Monsieur. They do get the bread & some things correct & the crepes were very good as well but not up to Parisian standards.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

It reminds me of a cabbie we had in Vegas 2 - 3 years ago, who announced that he didn't have to travel outside the US to see the world. He could see it all in Vegas - Paris, Italy etc etc.

The sad thing was - he was serious.

I love Vegas - Disneyland for adults. I've stayed at Paris Las Vegas and thought it was a good value. Now thinking this is a substitute for Paris, France is a bit of a stretch. The giant Eiffel tower glasses filled with strawberry Daquari's kinda takes the romance out of it.

Go to Vegas just to enjoy Vegas but it won't give you a fix.

Fun to go up the Vegas 'tower' but otherwise truly hideous. I wasn't able to get into the expensive restaurant but the others served utterly inedible items vaguely resembling known foodstuffs. Vegas the town is pathetic (except for the Star Trek ride). Go into the desert instead - exquisite colors and magnificent formations the mind has difficulty grasping; stay until midnught and let the stars drop down all around you - breathtakingly beautiful!!
