Paris in June
I will be traveling alone to Paris in June. I will be staying at the Familia Hotel, and I want to take public transportation from CDG to the hotel. It looks like I will take the RER 2, but where do I get off the RER and get onto the Metro? It looks like I take the Cardinal Lemoine exit from the no. 10 Metro line. Also, any travel tips on a woman traveling solo or how to pack for the June weather would be greatly appreciated. I have been to Paris, but I was in high school with a group, and I don't remember much. All advice is greatly appreciated!

For around $10, the Air France bus will take to you to any of several points in downtown Paris where you can pick up a taxi, the metro (or if you're lucky, nothing but your feet) to get to your final destination. You can pick up this bus right outside the terminal at the first door, as you exit customs. Another option is the KLM bus, which costs around $13, but will drop you off directly at your hotel. You can pick up this bus outside of Gate 26 in Terminal 1.

A very low cost, efficient alternative is to take the RER Line B3, for around $7. You can grab the free ADP shuttle from the lower level of Terminal 1, get over to Terminal 2, where the RER station is located. The RER doesn't get stuck in traffic and conveniently links right into the Paris Metro system. That said, remember not to bring along things that will kill you on the stairs if this is to be your choice. You simply don't want more than you can conveniently and securely control. (The dollar conversions I've made here are roughly based on approximately a 7-1 ratio of French Francs/U.S. Dollars -- I haven't been there since the beginning of the year and I'm guessing the Euro value is about the same).

Here's nice site that you can drill into to work out your routing for the RER/Metro system:

http://www.subwaynavigator.com/subway_site/eng/accueil/fset_subway.htm

My recommendation would be the airline bus to the city because it's not all that much more costly than the RER and it just makes sense with luggage to consider. If you're traveling light, I've taken the RER and found it convenient on the express trips.

I visited Paris in June in '00-- a wonderful time of year. Long daylight hours and warm but not hot days.
I suggest you take organized tours of museums--D'orsay, Louvre, etc.
Paris Walking Tours is wonderful...its a nice way to meet people or be part of a small crowd if you are feeling like you want some company. I believe the website is www.pariswalkingtours.com
The 3hr canal boat trip is also great.
Some of the bus tours, while limiting, are a nice way to get outside the city.
Giverney, Chartres etc.

Best way is taxi from the airport to your hotel. However, you can take the RER, get off at station St Michel, and walk over to metro Cluny La Sorbonne. I believe there's an underground connection between them.Take that for two stations direction Gare d'Austerlitz and get off at Cardinal Lemoine. Or if no connection you could just walk from St Michel to Cluny la Sorbonne - not that far. For more Paris information e-mail me: [email protected]

Bonjour Helen!

I will be in Paris in less than three weeks, and I am very excited!

About the weather. Oh la la. When I was in Paris in July 2000, I nearly froze to death. Honestly, I had to buy a coat when I was there. Then, in June 2001, it was quite warm some days and one night, it was very warm, even late in the evening.

My advice for weather -- Prepare for the cold. Prepare for warm days! Seriously!

In July 2000, I stayed at the Familia Hotel, and it is very lovely! You have a post office, drugstore, and ATM machine right across the street. And if you wish to take in a late night film, there are cinemas scattered all along rue des Ecoles! One is just a few doors down, even.

Have a wonderful trip!

Jennifer
