World travellers,
Been reading a lot about France's push for American tourists who've backed away from visiting Paris and other places due to variety of reasons, the high euro being a key one. However, I'm not finding any terrific deals on hotels. I'm going in July
and would certainly tweak my itinerary booked this past fall if I saw some "deals."
Anybody come across something?

I did in April for May (actually it was in May for May) but you may not have as good luck for July. There's a thread here someplace

I'm receiving a number of e-mail messages from the French Government Tourist Office that seem to be offering good deals, but I haven't checked them out. I assume you are like all of us in wanting a great place for a very low price, which is not likely.

However, there are plenty of two-star and three-star hotels in Paris that have been mentioned on this website and have also been variously advertised. A good website for "fairly" priced hotels is www.ParisHotels.com. Also the official French government site is www.franceguide.com -- but it hasn't proved very useful to me.

As one suggestion for a neat two-star hotel with prices under 100 euro, try the Hotel La Louisiane. It's in a good location and should be about as nice a hotel as you can get for the price. As for finding a 4-star hotel or better at a bargain price, I'm afraid you might be out of luck. You can try all the discount sites, though; you never know what might come up. Finally, there are usually some special Air France air/hotel vacation packages that are pretty good. Good luck.

It may be a hassle but I sent emails directly to the managers at some of the hotels we were considering and got some very good rates in return - Minerve, Familia, Claude Bernard to name a few.

Guess it just goes to show that the world doesn't turn on the American tourist dollar totally. I jyst made reservations for Paris?london for November through a discounter and got what I thought were very reasonable rates....OK, so it isn't for the "high" season but in London the prices always seem high to me.

Thanks for the replies. I got some good deals at some 3 star jobs-Relais Bosquet, Grand Des Ecoles. I'm just curious if others have seen good deals at other 3 and 4 star joints. Although i don't mind paying normal rates, it always tastes a bit sweeter when you got a "good" deal, like well below rack.
