Paris Hotels

My friend and I are traveling to Paris for a week in Febuary. We are both 24 year old women looking to have a great time. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on some hotels. We are looking to spend btwn 80-100 dollars a night. I have been to Paris once before for 2 days and hated my hotel. It was on the outskirts of the city and just not easy to get to anywhere from. We would like to stay in the "thick of things." We're really open to anything, maybe staying close to an area where the night life is good but that is not a requirement. If you have any suggestions we would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks!

I would recommend that you stay in/around Quartier Latin (5th district)Saint-Germain (6th), where the "action" you're looking for will be. You should check on www.paris-hotels.com (their zone 2), they have a nice selection with good descriptions for moderate prices.

We usually stay at the Hotel Delhy, which is on a pedestrian side street right off the Boulevard St Michel, near the river. In your price range, and definitely in the thick of things (but quiet because of its location).

You'll not find much better a deal than this great spot my wife and I stayed at with friends last fall. Hotel St. Gregoire ia a family run quaint spot in the heart of the action in the 6th arr. and a few steps from a metro stop. It's about $125 a night, but you won't be sorry. At the $80-$100 range you step down quite a few notches on cleanliness and safety. Try this spot and you won't regret it. Here's a link below. <BR> <BR>http://www.smallandeleganthotels.com/Paris/gregoire.htm

We stayed in Elvira's general area at the Hotel du College de France and were quite happy. The rooms were small (as they are in Paris), but there was an elevator and the hotel is on a quiet street between St. Germain and rue des Ecoles. I could look out my window left to a beautiful church. It was 550FF last year (summer), breakfast 35 FF. Walk to Notre Dame, the river, Cluny Museum, Blvd St. Michel, etc. A couple of different websites allow you to make reservations. (The one we used last year doesn't work...) http://www.123europe.com/europe/fran...s/hocollus.htm OR http://www.lodging-france.com/paris/...-de-france.htm <BR> <BR>Both of those websites show maps of the area, and you can see the Seine on them! Very central.

PS. I disagree with Brian about cleanliness and safety. The College de France is listed in Fodor's Hotels of Charm in Paris. In the last two years we have stayed at 3 hotels at about $80/night and they were all listed in Fodor's and were very safe and clean. (And unlike American chains.)

While I didn't go clubbing in Paris this past spring, I did observe various neighbourhoods at night. Evidence confirms what my Lonely Planet guidebook told me: the Bastille area (4e arrondissement) seems to be hot . . . This was the place where I really noticed the bass thumping from behind curtained doors, and the lines of well-dressed francophone twentysomethings lined up to get into who-knows-what. <BR> <BR>Bear in mind this was almost a year ago; hopefully the hip haven't migrated yet. <BR> <BR>I haven't stayed in the 4e before, but try Lonely Planet and Fodor's guides for advice on hotels. Right here on the Fodors site are recommendations for Castex and Place des Vosges, both at Bastille metro stop. Anyone who's stayed there want to chime in? <BR> <BR>Do tell us, when you get back, where you had the most fun at night! <BR> <BR>Ciao! <BR> <BR> - Q - <BR>

We loved the Grand Hotel des Balcons last November--terrific location (our priority that trip) in the 6th---near the Odeon metro, a 10 minute walk to the Seine and Notre Dame. Service was good, and with the strong dollar was $83/night for two, including breakfast. Good luck--wish we were going back! Kathryn

I agree with the Latin Quarter as a great location. <BR> <BR>I have stayed at thre Familia Hotel- <BR>it is very clean safe and is less than $100 per nite. It is also near 3 subway stops(with in 2-3 blocks). Ask for a room with a balcony on the 2 or 5th floors. These are the nicest rooms and will cost close to $95 per nite. <BR>Yoiu must call direct to make a reservation as this is a small family run hotel. Everyone speaks english. It is recommended in the FODORS Paris guide. Good luck.

I was very pleased with the Hotel Saint Christophe located in the Latin Quarter, walking distance to Place Monge train station, Sorbonne, very centric. You may want to check the following website http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75005saintchris.htm <BR> <BR>Also, the following website is very useful in giving you a good pictorial idea of streets/locations. When you enter the address, this website shows you pictures of the street up and down. <BR>http://www.pageszoom.com/rc.cgi <BR> <BR>Have a great time!

Another vote for Hotel saint Cristophe. Nicest staff, fresh breakfast, walking distance to many sights. I felt it was a safe neighborhood. I recommended it to a friend heading out on Jan 2001 and she mentioned how they get this special rate, $93/double (breakf & taxes included). good until the beggining of March.
