Paris hotels

I have emailed both the Hotel du Champ de Mars and Hotel Leveque for availability in August for possible reservation and neither has responded. It has been 2-3 days. Is this a normal response time or should I call them direct? If I call will there be a language problem? This will be our first time in Paris so am unfamiliar with booking practices. Maybe they have to take time to translate from and back into Eglish?

We have reservations for Leveque for the end of July - it only took a few hours for confirmation. I would suggest that maybe your e-mail did not go through.

There won't be a language problem if you call during the day Paris time, and probably not if you call in the eveing or later. I've stayed at the Champs de Mars, and the early desk person spoke fluent English.

If you really want to stay at the Champ de Mars and the Leveque, call. I know the Champ de Mars does not reply to all emails from my experience. I moved on to other hotels that would.

thanks for your responses. I'll try emailing from my office to see if it goes through. If I don't hear anything same day I'll call them. Thanks

I've read that the Champ de Mars has a limited 'opportunity window' for booking - you have to hit it just right (but I don't know what the timeframe is)...

These are not the only two hotels to choose from and I'm sure you can find better ones.

If you prefer the 7th, many people like Hotel Muguet, similar price-range. You might enjoy the A/C in August.

I'd sure want the AC, also, but the Leveque has it from what I've read.

I don't know about those two, but any hotel I email for reservations in Paris has responded within a day. After a couple days, I would think it might have gotten overlooked somehow and either was deleted or in the part of the queue they may not be checking anymore. You never know, someone could have been out a while, but I'd definitely followup after not hearing anything for 3 days.

have stayed at the champ du mars twice and reservations were always done via e mail. this time we are renting an apt. i wanted more space (but we were seriously considering the muget) champ du mars is great for the money but the rooms and baths are small. make sure to pay the extra $$$$ and get a room that overlooks the st-they are slghtly larger.

Gretchen,
Yes I see that the Muguet has gone up so I went over to have a look since I am in Paris now in an apartment and there have been wonderful renovations with really beautiful new spreads and drapes, all new carpets and furniture and flat screend TV's. The headboards have inlaid muguets on them. All bathrooms have been redone with all new fixtures and tiles. Many of the small single rooms have been combined to make one large room with king size beds or two twins. The common area had been redone and refurnished about a year ago. We will definitely stay there again when we go for shorter stays. I was also told that you can now reserve one of the rooms with a view if available. The new website should be up in about a month.

That's good news about the Hotel Muguet. I thought it's already possible to reserve an Eiffel Tower view room via their website.

I've always booked my hotel in Paris by email and rec'd a reply within a few hours, you say its 3 days and you've not rec'd a reply, well then if that were me, i'd choose somewhere else, if they take that long to reply to an email, i would question their service!

thanks for all the responses to my post. I finally did get a response from both hotels on Friday (don't know why it took so long) and have made reservations at the Hotel Leveque for a streetside room (maybe with a view of the Eiffel Tower?) for August. Again, thanks for all your help and support. This can be nerve-racking for a fist-timer to Paris.
