PARIS Hotels - 4 or 5 Stars
Have no clue where to start researching about hotels in paris. Any recommendations for nice 4/5-star-hotels in Paris? Here's our initial list:

Westin Trianon Palace
Intercontinental Paris
Le Meridien Etolile
Le Meridien Montparnasse
Sofitel Champs Elysees
Warwick Champs Elysses
Hotel Buci Latin

How much should I expect to pay for these hotels?

Thanks!

Justin

Check the Bristol.....5 star+ and you will pay the price for it...figure about $800 a night or so..is that what you want? And why? You can sleep in a perfectly adequate hotel 2 star for $80 or so....think of the $700 you are saving PER DAY! I have stayed at the Bristol (paying $875 per night) and I have stayed at many 2 star hotels in Paris...the 2 stars are actually better.

I agree with Bill. I have stayed at the top hotels in Paris and I have stayed in many of the small 2-3 star hotels. For my money, the best value are the small hotels. Now, if you are on business and your company will pay the outlandish rates for the biggies, then by all means stay there. If you are on your own, and you want value for your dollar, use the smaller hotels. You will sleep just as good, and just think what that $500-700 a night you are SAVING can be used for.

Depending on the arr. you pick, you need to spend $250 t0 $350 for a spacious room with quality service and amenities. Two we use in the 1st arr. are Lotti and Cambon, both in the center of things and not overloaded with international travelers. At Lotti ask for a room on the street--high ceilings and good soundproofing. You can book on-line but a travel agent may deliver a lower price.

I would drop the two Meridiens from your list. They attract primarily a business clientele and the rooms reflect that--comfortable, certainly adequate, but no real "personality." Of your list, I would suggest the Intercontinental or the Buci Latin. By the way, if you rent the movie Frantic, it features the Intercontinental, I believe. In the same vicinity of the Buci Latin (didn't it just change its name?) is the Bel Ami, which is quite nice (but modern).

Thanks for the replies thus far. They are very helpful!

I came accross a magazine that highly recommended L' Hotel Pergolese. Has anyone heard of that? How about Millennium Opera Hotel? Heard that it's super value for money.

In addition, for small hotels like Buci Latin, where can I get a good rate (given that their website only show "rack rates")?

Thanks!

Dear Justin;
I think if you check out parisby.com you can find the Buci Latin. In reference to l'hotel Pergolese; I'm not sure if you're refering to the famous L' Hotel in the 6th arrondissement if you are it's very nice; but not cheap.I will give you the names of a few small hotels to check out: hotel Verneuil www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75007verneuil.If you book a hotel here this is a nice small French hotel; but be sure to request a large room with a terrace, the standard rooms are tiny.hotel Prince de Conti is nice in the 6th fax#(o1)44 07 36 34 Hotel des Marronniersfax# (01)40 46 83 56. Hotel de Fleurie emailbonjour@hotel-de-fleurie+m.fr. All these hotels are resonable to inexcpensive and are in good centeral locations they are typically French: small; clean; and sweet. If you want something grander log onto karenbrown.com or 4 srar hotels on parisby.com
This should give you a decent start; if you need more info. email me
Viva la France!

Hi Justin

I was tossing between Buci Latin (now called Artus hotel) & L'Hotel Pergolese for my trip in August but came across another one which you may like to consider. It's Hotel de Noailles on rue de Michodiere in the 2nd Arrond : www.hoteldenoailles.com which was recommended by another guidebook. It has a good location and the rate is slightly lower than the the first two. It looks nice and hip as well.

I'm leaning towards Hotel de Noailles and wonder if anyone has experienced their rooms, facilities and service. Thanks.

We just returned from a trip to Paris and we loved the newly renovated George V Four Seasons. Exquisite with the most brilliant flower arrangements! We paid approximately $450 for a double room and we were upgraded to a Jr. Suite using the American Express Platinum Program which also includes breakfast. We have stayed at several small 3 star hotels in Paris; however for a special event, it definitely is worth it.
Our favorites,

George V Four Seasons
Crillon
Lancaster Hotel
Aubusson Hotel
Vigny Hotel

I would not recommend the Intercontinental, Warwick, Sofitel only if you enjoy large tourist groups and ordinary rooms, although they are in good areas. Hotel Buci Latin has received positive comments for its understated French Moderne decoration.
Enjoy your trip!
