Paris hotel recommendation in the 16th please

Hi there:

I will be in Paris next month on business and want to stay in the 16th. Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice hotel under 220Euros per night? I really want to stay in the area around Auteuil if possible.

BTW, I have checked rates for Sofitel Dokhan, Sofitel Le Parc and Sofitel Baltimore and rates are around 270 per night

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Regards Ger

Well, there are several hotels in the Auteuil neighborhood but most of them are small 2* type hotels, not sure if I'd want them for a business trip and certainly not up to the level of the Sofitels you checked. The Queen's Hotel is one of the better ones in the 2* range. Or you could try the service suitehotel HotelHome www.hotelhome.fr I haven't stayed at the hotel but did spend several weeks in an apartment down the street, it's a nice, if quiet neighborhood.

Back in the Victor Hugo neighborhood, there is the Hotel du Bois. www.hoteldubois.com The biggest downside is that it's almost ALWAYS fully booked.

Friends of ours always stay at the Eiffel Kennedy. It's about 1/2 mile north of Place d'Auteuil. We met up with them last year to visit some of their favorite restaurants nearby - Le Tournesol, Fontaine d'Auteuil (twice) - fabulous! We spent days exploring the neighborhood for Art Nouveau buildings. The hotel is very convenient to Bus Routes 72, 22, and 52.

You can find reviews at TripAdvisor and Venere.

Thanks BTilke. I stayed in Queen's hotel almost a decade ago - the very samllest hotel room in Paris. No, I am just not a two-star kinda girl

The HotelHome looks perfect; my TA is checking it out for me as well as the Hotel du Bois.

Thanks for the hotel and restaurant recommendations djkbooks; I'll check them out. Personally, I LOVE the 16th - its SO civilized.

Regards Ger

Try the Regent's Garden, built by Napoleon for one of his physicians. Very nice, with a small garden. The adjacent street has a number of restaurants, and across the street is a small grocery.

Stayed at the Auteuil Tour Eiffel 3 weeks ago, Rack rate was 210E. Good business hotel, large rooms, friendly staff. Bar and restaurant, but I never used. Location is 2 blocks to Mirabeau Metro, couple blocks from Seine (views of Eiffel tower). Nice cafe at end of street, across from Metro entrance. Quiet, non touristy. I booked via expedia and paid less than going rate. I walked up to Muette for some nice restuarants.

Hope this helps,
Mike

We stayed at the Auteuil Tour Eiffel in October and paid 160 euro per night for the room (no breakfast). It's pretty much as Michel_Paris described. Serviceable, businessy, but bland. Not much of a view either...you overlook a radiology clinic across the street. Le Dome cafe around the corner wasn't a bad spot to grab a morning coffee and, as noted above, you're an easy walk to the Mirabeau metro stop (which only goes one way).

I will be interested in hearing where you stay.

I will be in Paris in early Feb..staying at the Westminster. I have planned on doing some "looking" in the 16th while there for future stays.

I visit the 16th every trip because my parents lived there. It is so interesting and as said, "civilized", but really so difficult for the Metro, in my opinion. I guess that depends onwhere you need to go however.
There are often excellent brocantes in the Auteuil square.

Hotel de Longchamp is well located-Eiffel Tower just in the distance. We stayed there a long time ago though (1991) when it was called Hotel du Rond Point de Longchamp.

We stayed in an apartment in the 16th for quite a bit less than 220E. It was lovely.

I highly recommend it.

There was an upscale hotel on the corner of Rue Magdebourg and Kleber. I don't know the name, but you should be able to find it on mappy or the french yellow pages.

Hi Danna, the apartment looks great. I was originally only there for 2 nights and therefore did not consider an apartment. My stay is extended to 5 days, so I may think about an apartment. Thanks.

OK, here's where I am. First choice was Hotel Home but they only have the two room suite at a very good price of 208Euros per night. My TA got me a price of 128 Euros for a superior at the Auteuil Tour Eiffel. Given the difference in price, I think the latter is difficult to pass up as I will be out every night at business dinners (I'll be back for restuarant recs!).

Thanks again for your kind assistance.

Merry Christmas and happy travels in 2007.

Ger

I think you'll be satisfied with the hotel. That's a good rate and fyi, they make a very nice hot chocolate at the bar in case you feel like one before bed.
One caveat: it's not conveniently located for getting to the Gare du Nord, in case you're arriving by train. In fact, it will be quite a long metro ride with changes and a taxi ride isn't that fast either. Because of traffic, when we went, we had to go via the peripherique (and the driver was pushing the speed limit, as my friend was running very late for her Eurostar) and it was about a 30 euro ride. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks BTilke. I'll be arriving and departing from CDG and taking a taxi. The hotel is convient to the metro line for Pont St. Cloud where our office is located.

Thanks for the correction, TN. I got the 68 and 86 mixed up too. But the Hotel du Rond Point de Longchamp was nice.

Just a note on the Auteuil Tour Eiffel. Thank you Michel and BTilke for the recommendation. I was VERY pleased with the hotel. My rate was only 128 Euros (standard room). I asked for an upgrade on check-in and they upgraded me to a superior room for no extra charge.

The room was very, very large (more junior suite really) and looked onto a small courtyard. WIFI (charge of 10 Euros for 2 hours over 30 days - not bad) worked. TV had BBC Prime gt Service was extremely friendly, very good hot breakfast (13 Euros ?), nice little bar area. 7 minutes walk to two Metro stops on convenient line (M10).

For the price, this was excellent value - a top-end Three Star business hotel in convenient area for meetings in Boulonge/Point-Port St. Cloud and not a bad choice for visitors that like the 16th arr., which I DO.

Regards Ger
