We stayed at the Claude Bernard last summer - nice enough, great location, very helpful staff. I think the doubles there were running around your budget. We had a family suite which was quite large and 'charming'.

The Mercure Raspail is available for those dates. It's in the 14th but right at the edge of the 6th and has good metro access. It is 100 euros per night.

Thanks again, all. For those of you in suspense... I have found availability at either the Hotel Fleurie(165) or Hotel Therese(130)...concerned that the Therese room is too small.. they say it is 11sq meters...so i'm checking on the size of the Superior room.
Also heard good thing about Hotel de Lutece(I'lle St Louis)...where can i find a site or email?..appreciate all the help and suggesstions.. i have been checking all the sites you're giving me..

I just returned from Hotel Residence Les Gobelins inthe 13th/ borders on the 5th. Double room about 70 e. See if you can get a quieter room on the courtyard. This is a very modest, but clean hotel. Not luxury. You can contact them via email and reserve. I did everything within 2 weeks of departure. They are 20 minutes' walk from Jardin du Luxumbourg & Pantheo, metro to Louvre is paces away and a straight 8 stop trip. Hotel is listed & rated here on Fodor's also. www.hotelgobelins.com. Good luck!!

I stay at the Hotel Kensington in the 7th Arr (79, avenue de la Bourdonnais, Metro: Ecole Militaire and RER: Pont de l'Alma) and get a double for only 67 euros/night! It is 2 blocks away from the Eiffel Tower and is within walking distance to the 5th, 6th, 1st, and 8th Arrs. The hotel staff is friendly and a few of the clerks speak English. I stay there every time I am in Paris - you can't beat the bargain nor the location!

The Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche is newish (10/03) on Rue St Jacques 1 block from Notre Dame & near RER from airport. It's 140 euros/nite & looks fantastic on this website. It's a sister hotel to the Lutece so I think if you go to this website I took note of, you might also find the Lutece.

Since I noticed on another thread you're considering the Duc St Simon (sorry I don't ahve the webs address) you might also look at Relais St Germaine which was recommended by frequent Patrick (whose taste I trust-he's a decroator). He described it as a small hotel with big rooms decorated by designer owners. Feels like Paris residence. Near Odeon metro stop

The Hotel de Notre Dame is on Rue Maitre Albert. About 150 euro/double. http://www.hotel-paris-notredame.com/index.html
