Santa Passede church...the best mosaics in the city..by a long shot...simply breathtaking!
A short block south of Santa Maria Maggiore, and nearly impossible to see until you are right in front of it.
And Santa Sabina is also little know but fascinating in its own way - I think it's the only church in Rome remaining that is built (at least the main part) in the Roman (Empire) style of a basilica (govt. office). Goes back to the 5th century and has wooden doors on which (supposedly) the earliest known depiction of Christ on the Cross can be found. Up the hill west of the Circo Massimo.
Both churches are on streets named for the church, so easy to find on a map.

...more about Santa Prassede...the best mosaics in the church -- made by top craftsmen brought in from the eastern empire (in the 800s, I believe) -- are in a tiny room that (for 1 euro) will completely light up -- so you see them well-lit and close-up, unlike the mosics in most of the other churches (S. Maria Maggiore, S. Maria in Trastevera, etc.)
