My favorite is Rouen. Lots to see in a day - takes about 45 min. from Paris, 3 lovely cathedrals, half-timbered buildings, etc. I have a report on the day I spent there. If you're interested e-mail me directly.

Assuming that you are planning five nights or more in Paris, I recommend NO day trips. I have not visited Rouen, but we visited Senlis last month during our vacation in Paris and thought it was wonderful. We were able to get there in 30 minutes or so via train from Paris Nord to Chantilly. Via a bus that runs between the Chantilly train station and Senlis you can see both in a day. We thought the stables in Chantilly were awesome, as was the chateau itself.<BR>Senlis is one of two medieval towns in France with it's entire surrounding greco-roman wall, many ancient structures including the original Notre Dame, and a couple interesting museums. It was a very lively town too - many creperies, restaurants, and shops jam its tiny streets so it feels very lived-in.

Try Reims! About 1 1/2 hours by train. Great place to see how they make the best champagne in the world.

There are several day trips that would be available: Chartres, Fontainebleau, Vaux-le-Vicomte, Troyes.
