Paris budget hotels near/around the Louvre

My niece and her friend are looking for a budget hotel in this area. Their maximum price is €100. They will only stay for 2 nights.

Thanks.

Personally i do not consider a hotel around the Louvre to be a great location - very busy streets, etc.

right across the Seine on the Left Bank are many hotels that are really a short walk away

perhaps i don't know what you mean by around the Louvre - not many hotels really except some grandiose ones it seems offhand

check www.accorhotels.com - they have dozens of hotels all over Paris at that price - they are not the proverbial family-run intimate hotels but modern ones (with dependably modern WCs and showers)

If they want budget - they probably should look in other areas. The 1st is among the most expensive neighborhoods in Paris. There are wonderful hotels w/i their budget in other very central areas. Especially in the 4th and across on the left bank.

How close to the Louvre do they want to be??

Thank you PalenQ, janis and Travelnut.

I actually suggested to them to go across the river as there are more choices but I think a friend lives around the area and they want to get together easily and so on....I just gave up!!

janis: probably 15-20 minute walk to the Louvre itself.

Travelnut: I'll pass those 2 hotels to them...they look excellent for their needs. I'll tell them to cross-check with tripadvisor.

PalenQ: I agree with you about the location around Louvre as being not that great location but.... I'll tell them to check accor hotels

A 15-20 minute walk to the Louvre gives you about a mile radius. That gives you most of the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and parts of 8th and 9th arrondissements.

With the Metro line being right beside the Louvre, they could stay a bit further west, towards the Marais and still be only 3/4 metro stops away.

I just want to say (without offering any helpful information) that when I moved to Paris in 1973, the very first hotel where I stayed was the Hôtel du Petit Louvre on rue Saint Honoré (It doesn't exist anymore -- don't look for it). It was about 3 blocks from the Louvre and the price was 22 francs a night. That's 3.35 euros.

After getting organized and getting a job, I moved into a residential hotel in Belleville for 290 francs a month (that's 1.43 euros a day). Once I got my first paycheck, I hit the big time and moved into a chambre de bonne in the nicest part of the 16th arrondissement for 350 francs a month (1.72 euros a day).

Oh, anyway, budget hotels in Paris now cost about 40-50 euros and are easily available in the 10th arrondissement near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. But that's about 10 minutes from the Louvre area by metro, so your niece might find that excessively inconvenient.

Hi kerouac, regarding Hôtel du Petit Louvre, I did a calculation that showed a price appreciation of 10% a year over 35 years had the hotel still existed and were charging roughly 100 euros a night now.

I'm a little surprised by the 10% annual increase. It seems like a lot.

Regarding the original question I think the cheapest serviceable option near the Louvre is Hotel Tiquetonne (about 60 euros a night for a double). It's closer to Les Halles than the Louvre though.

Just returned from a stay at the Hotel Louvre Forum. It was 110E per night. We usually used the Louvre/Palais Royal metro stop, not the Louvre Rivoli. the former seemed closer. And I think about the same distance to Les Halles metro stop. It was very convenient for taking the RER B to/from the airport.

I walked by the Hotel Tiquetonne a couple of times and I think it would be closer to the Louvre/Palais Royal metro than Les Halles (unless I am still jet-lagged and screwed up...). I remember seeing it and thinking it would be a great location for a budget hotel if I needed one in the future.

I think the closest Metro stop to Hotel Tiquetonne is Etienne-Marcel. Regarding the #1 line, I'd have to look at a map.

It's close enough to Louvre, but I think it's closer to Les Halles. (Google) map here:

I think there are enough budget hotels in the 1st to find one, just as many as in some of the expensive Left Bank areas mentioned or the 4th -- the 1st includes the Halles and Chatelet areas which are only a few blocks from the Louvre. There are a few expensive hotels on rue de Rivoli, but plenty of others.

The 3* Hotel Victoria Chatelet is only a few blocks east of the Louvre and a good locaiton, and it has twins for just under 100 euro:
www.hovicha.com

Also, the 2* Hotel Montpensier is right near the Louvre and has twins around 95-100 euro.
http://www.hotelmontpensierparis.com

the 2* Hotel Prince Albert Louvre has superior twins for 109 euro
http://www.hotelprincealbert.com/

I know a few others that are a bit over 100 euro (like the Hotel Londres Honore http://www.hotellondressthonore-paris.com/ so I guess those should be best. That is pretty cheap nowadays for a twin room (which cost more than doubles, often).

Ah, I see my mistake. I was thinking of the Timhotel Louvre. The address is 4 Rue Croix Des Petits Champs. I'm not sure if it is under 100E though.

You can see information on Timhotel Louvre at: http://www.timhotel.com/hotels/us/louvre.html

This is a great location at just a little more than 100⁄€ -- a three minutes walk to the Louvre and on the main metro line.

I have very good luck clicking on the "Hotels" tab at Fodor's & reading poster reviews. None there now, but they used to show good reviews w/repeat guests for Residence Les Gobelins, stayed in 2004. 13th arrondissment, close to the 5th, 20 minute metro ride to The Louvre, 20 min walk to Luxumbourg Gardens. I paid approx 72 euros for a double bed on the courtyard w/ a bathtub (now 89). There is street noise and across from the hotel is a meeting place for group tours, so I reccomend the courtyard. Great bakery across the street, but the hotel breakfast of pot of coffee, oj & croissants 8 euros (was 6.5 in '04- not bad increase) is a good value. Not much near Louvre & metro fast easy runs into the night.
