Is there a French word/words for "Bed & Breakfast"? Would like to find a small hotel or Bed & Breakfast in the 6th, 7th or 5th Arrondissement.... Any suggestions much appreciated. We will be traveling in the Fall and would probably need a near by place to park a car.

The closest thing is probably chambre d'hôte. But Paris doesn't have many of those, I don't think.

Must you have a car in Paris?

There are plenty of small hotels, you won't find B&Bs much at all in Paris, it's a rural concept. it isn't like England nor places in the US where that term is used for an upscale small inn. if you just want modest accommodations, choose a budget hotel. Paris apts are quite small, most people don't have extra rooms to let out. If they do, I doubt if there are many in those particular areas which are prime real estate.

Finding a place to park a car is going to be difficult just as in any major metropolitan area, and it will cost you maybe 25 euro a day? Something like that, there are some car parks around town. Vincipark is one brand. I'd suggest you find a hotel that mentions something about parking (nhot that it will be included but that if they mention it, there is probably a car park nearby). There is a big one over near Les Invalides, for example, and there is one in the neighborhood I usually stay in Montparnasse (which isn't the 5-7th) and a hotel I frequent has a parking rate (meaning they handle it). But it's in the 14th.

I believe there is a car lot somewhere around place St Sulpice in the 6th and around the Pantheon in the 5th. Try some of those hotels (ie, hotel du Pantheon or Grands Hommes) but they aren't super cheap if that is why you are asking about B&Bs. They aren't super expensive, either.

Thanks for the help... Last time in Paris, we parked under the Pantheon. We want a car to take a day trip or two.... Guess we'll stick to the small hotel concept.

What sort of day trips do you need a car for? Do you know that it will cost you about the same to rent a car for a day or two as it could for a week - plus exorbitant parking fees.

Unless you are driving to Paris, just pick up a rental car the morning you want to do a day trip. Parking is going to be costly.

Many popular daytrip destinations can be easily reached by train. Depending on the number in your party, the train is often a less expensive option.

But, guess you know what a car entails having done it before.

A few years ago I drove to Paris from the UK .

(I live in England and because we were planning on driving around Normandy for a week or so after Paris it made sense).

We stayed 3 nights in Paris at Hotel Monge in the 5th - it's not far from the Pantheon.

I parked in an underground garage down from Rue Monge (towards Place d'Italie. The cost was 50 euros for 3 days, but near in mind this was 4 or 5 years ago. You would probably pay 20 euros plus per day now.

If you google Paris parking, somewhere there is a map of Paris with all the car parks marked on it. That's how I found the one where I parked.

i went to the gites de france website [they list chambres d'hôtes as well] and they don't appear to have any listed in Paris itself, though there are some in the lie de france.

I know that there are a few on this website if you are set on B&B.

Try La Familia hotel in the 5th. Nice rooms but small but they do offer parking. Personally I would do day trips by train and avoid Paris traffic!
