Many apartments are available for less than one week, although it varies by owner and the dates. Shouldn't be a problem in Sept.-Oct.
You'll typically pay a premium; we stayed in apartments this September for three days each and paid about 10% more than the weekly rate (divided by 7 days).
The owners we use and represent in our agency have several multi-apartment locations at reasonable prices.

Hi Anna,
I'm just reading this post and you must have already done your Paris trip.
Maybe for a next time, try to use the services of Paris Room Rental: www.paris-room-rental.com . This is not a rental agancy, but run by an apartment owner. Therefor the prices are good and they have a nice selection of apartments in the very center of Paris and most are based around the Opera Garnier. Most apartments are available from 3 nights per stay.
Anyway, hope you had a great time!

Guenmai: I am just reading this post and your question from October. The rental from the private party turned out fine. I called him on the phone. He lived in Vermont and I live in Massachusetts so I kind of felt some sense of familiarity with that and he also had a business that I found when I googled him. He required a deposit and then so many days (30 I think)the balance. It worked fine. We met a man in Paris at the apartment. We had no problems, although you do have to take a chance with something like that. I did see the apartment listed on some reputable rental sites on the internet.
