Any suggestions for a trip to include 3 nights Paris, say five nights in either Strasbourg or Colmar then ending up in Geneva? Hotel recoommendations please? Side trips in Alsace-Lorraine?

Both Metz and Nacy are highly worth a visit in Lorraine.

I loved Strasbourg. I would spend at least 2 nites there, then work your way south down the Route de Vin and stay in one of the smaller villages. We found Colmar to be OK, but much prefered Strasbourg. For a smaller town south of Strasbourg look at Kayserberg, then on to Geneva. We stayed in a very quiet town called Eguishiem at Hostellerie du Chateau, 3 stars right on the town square. If you like quiet, it is perfect. We only stayed one nite in Strasbourg (Hilton, it was late and we did not have a plan for that nite) but we spent 2 nites 20KM away in Obernai, at Hotel Diligence. Found it in the Michelin Guide. Again, right on the square. Obernai was a good mix of shopping, eating and Alsatian charm.

Got to Mount St Odilie and Haut Kroenigsburg (spelling??) for side trips. Colmar for the altarpiece, and any of the quaint towns along the Rt de Vin

Remember also that if you are going after June 10, the new TGV Est line will be operating ... it'll take 2 hrs 20 mins from Paris to Strasbourg, down from about 4 hours now. Metz and Nancy are nice, though not sure I'd spend more than 1 night in either.

We stayed in Riquewihr at the Sarment d'Or. Nice hotel, great restaurant. We visited many little towns on the Route d'Vin. We had a nice visit to Haut Konigsburg.

Look for the little road west of the Route du Vin...I think it's the D65.

In Geneva, I stayed at the Hotel Moevenpick, right next to the airport. Very nice rooms with a casino downstairs. I won 50 francs from one slot pull! I never win in the states! If you are there on a weekend and there is no convention nearby, you can get a deal for such a high quality room. Don't forget to try Moevenpick ice cream right downstairs in the restaurants (and all over Switzerland). The BEST you will ever taste. Hotel has a good location because there is a train station at the airport which has you in the middle of town (and over by the Lake) in 7 minutes flat. There is also a mall down the street from the hotel with a big Carrefours hypermarché(like a Costco with EVERYTHING). Next to the mall is a freeway entrance and a bus stop. In Alsace, 30 km west of Strasbourg, Saverne is really cute with a beautiful rose garden and walks in the woods.
