Paris Airport Transportation
Does anyone have experience with either "The Airport Shuttle-Paris" or the "Paris Airports Service"? These are door-to-door airport shuttles. They seem less expensive than a cab and just as convenient, if they are reliable.

My friend and I caught the so-called "Roissy bus" from CDG Airport to Opera. While it was reasonably priced, there was NO room for luggage and we got dirty looks from the other passengers on board that didn't have any because our bags were in the way. We were stupefied - this is supposed to be an airport service bus but no luggage racks or room under the bus for it! On our way back home we caught a cab. A lot less heartache (not to mention not having to negotiate the metro barriers with lots of baggage from S. Michele back to Opera).

It sounds like the best method (but not the cheapest) is to take a taxi if you have luggage.

About how much would it cost from Orly Airport into Paris - in the area of Notre Dame? How does this compare with taking the RER?

Thanks.
I don't know about cost to Orly, but from the ND area to Charles deGaulle was about $60 for a taxi. We had to catch an early morning flight, and the RER and shuttles don't run at all hours. The day before our departure we watched a family of three waiting (and waiting) for their shuttle to the airport! It was so painful to watch - made me glad I wasn't doing the waiting.
Set aside money for the taxi and avoid the stress.

Bob:

I'm also planning a visit to Paris & am trying to decide the easist (& reasonably priced) way to come/go from airport to city. You didn't say if you're arriving in CDG or thru Orly? I've heard there's an Air France shuttle bus that you can take from CDG into the city (don't have to have flown on Air France). Don’t know if this was the bus that a previous poster (see Joanna’s comment further above) was discussing or not.
Another option is taking the RER train into the city – it’s supposed to be a commuter line, rather than a metro.
I've taken the Airport bus a few times, to near the Arc de Triomphe, and there was lots of space under the bus. Perhaps there is another one I amnot aware of. Check out the TERMINALLY HIP site for airport transportation info. on all major airports.

every time i've gone to paris, i've take the RER. you get a shuttle from the airport (charles de gaulle) to the train station. i can't recall if you take train #1 or 2, but it's convenient to downtown (about half hour) and a heck of a lot less than a cab all the way in. haven't gone thru orly in a long time, but the time i did, i took a train from gare de lyon maybe? the southern train station. you can to go the SCNF web site and get airport train info. it's like $10 or so i recall from CDG. forget the airport shuttles.

I am always so tired by the time I get to Paris that I hate taking the bus or the RER, so I use the Airport Shuttle, you call them from the phone when you arrive, and they pick you up at your terminal and take you directly to your hotel. It is a nice service and I have had good luck with them. The e-mail address is:
[email protected]
Have a wonderful time in Paris! pattie

(This round two, so I may have duplicate postings.) For Pattie concerning the shuttle: I don't speak French, so if I use the phone to call the airport shuttle, will I be able to use English?
It sounds like a good way to reach your hotel, but the language is giving me
cause for conern. If you wish, reply to my email address or post it here.
Hi Bob...My husband and I used the company Airport Shuttle last summer. The cost was about $20 per person from CDG with group disounts available for larger groups. We liked it very much and it is much cheaper than taking a cab and much more convenient than the RER+cab or Air France bus, etc...as the shuttle takes you directly to your hotel and will pick you up at same for the return trip. They use mini-vans and reserve them before leaving US and then call when you arrive before picking up luggage. They were very reliable for us and others we have talked with as well. Overall, a long-overdue service in Paris.
The only caveat is that if you should use them for the return trip to the airport, be sure to allow lots of extra time as the van usually has to pick up lots of people scattered all over town. You can reach them through a website called www.webscapades.com. That's a great website for good hotel deals as well we found. Good luck!
We used Paris Airport Service in May last year. e-mail is [email protected]
They e-mailed us instructions as to what exit we should meet them at at CDG, and our only problem was that we were expecting to see someone with a sign at that door. I went outside several times and looked like a bewildered Amer. but no one approached me. Finally I used the phone number provided and was told the van was waiting. This trip outside the driver emerged from the unmarked van and identified himself. There were other passengers, and we made 3 stops before reaching our hotel. The driver spoke better English than my French; it cost $20 a person and so is a considerable saving over a taxi for one or two people. Returning they picked us up later than expected, and made a few more stops. We arrived as our flight was boarding and walked right on. Fortunately we are not anxious people, and the driver kept telling us we'd make it. I'd use them again, it is not for the impatient!

Just returned from a week long vacation in Paris. Concerning Paris Airport Service, they were prompt when we arrived at the airport, and they were prompt again when they picked us up from my hotel to drive me to the airport. The vans seat approximately 8 people, 3 in the back, 3 in the middle and 2 in the front. We were a group of three so the pickup from the airport, it was only us. The transfer from the hotel to the airport, we picked up a family of five so we didn't make too many stops. Judging just from that, I was satisfied. My biggest complaint however was that I was double charged. I made my booking through their site, www.parisairportservice.com. A company called Agence Colibri handles their online transactions. Before I left for Paris, my credit card statement stated that Agence Colibri had already debited 66 Euros from my account. So I thought that everything was already paid. I was surprised when the driver asked me to pay in cash after he dropped us off at the hotel. I spoke with their office and they said they had no record of a credit card payment. Not having my credit card statement with me, I couldn't show any proof except that I kept insisting that Agence Colibri had already debited my account. Not to let this incident dampen our vacation, I just paid the driver the 33 euros. I also didn't cancel my departure transfer as I figured it will be more of a hassle, timewise and patience wise. I am currently disputing the charge with my credit card company. I guess the moral of my lengthy description is that I probably would be careful making a reservation through their website as there seem to be a discrepancy between them and Agence Colibri. It probably was an honest mistake, but I wouldn't book with them again.

I just returned from Paris, took a taxi to/from Montmartre and CDG. Cost 40 Euro each way w/4 pieces of luggage. No hassle, no BS, and worth it just for piece of mind.

Forget about taking the Metro unless you want to carry all your stuff up/down metro stairs. Very few escalators.

If your hotel is anywhere near the Air France bus stop (Gare Montparnasse or Charles de Gaulle/Etoile) it is very convenient and easy to do - about $11.00. The RER is also fast and convenient if your hotel is near St. Michel or Luxembourg. Some people take the RER from CDG to Gare du Nord, then a taxi to hotel. I have taken the Paris Shuttle back to airport and was quite pleased. However, I don't particularly like to have to call them when I arrive, and then wait.
