Hello,
Travelling to Paris late October. Any recommendations for a good 3 star hotel in the 6th arrid? Stayed at Hotel Ferrandi last time (nice but eager to try something else).

Also, would like to do one day trip. Trying to decide between a day trip via a tour company OR renting a car. Would like to see country side- possible wine tour or see castles/quaint towns. Any recommendations???
Any suggestions on a charming chateaux to stay in between 1-2 hrs from Paris?

Many Thanks

<<Any suggestions on a charming chateaux to stay in between 1-2 hrs from Paris?>>

Two suggestions:

Chateau d'Esclimont at St. Symphorien - - about 50 minutes away.

and

Chateau d'Artigny at Montbazon - - might be a little more than 2 hrs away.

Both are champagne/caviar classy.

You can find web location info here just search on either name.

Best wishes,

Rex
Jen: I don't know what you're finding regarding availability, but just last week I made a reservation at Hotel de Notre Dame for the first weekend in November . It's in the 5th right near the river and Notre Dame. Not the 6th, but a terrific location. It's on a fabulous narrow winding little street. 150 euros per night double. They were very helpful and efficient in our dealings.

Here are a couple of websites:

http://www.hotel-paris-notredame.com/index.html

http://karenbrownusa.com/franceinns/detail.lasso?RecID=9816#
Rouen makes a great day trip (if you e-mail me directly I'll send you my day there). Have to be Chantilly (lovely castle/horse stables and Chartres (great cathedral) but for a more interesting town with 3 lovely cathedrals, half-timbered houses, walk along the Seine and other sites, Rouen gets my vote for overall siteseeing. Only about an hour train ride from Paris. The best part is you can take as much time as you want and not be tied to a tour companies schedule.

Jen,

Make your reservations now!!!!!! Your way on the late side. You might not get what you want.

This topic has been written about a lot. Here are two hotels that people seem to love in the 6th that are 3 stars. d'angleterre (search on angleterre) (I love!!!! this hotel and would highly recommend it) and hotel Millesime.

In addition here is the list of hotels recommeneded by Patrica Wells (famous Parisian Food reviewer for International herald-Trib) http://www.patriciawells.com/paris/photels.htm

She hits the major 3 stars in the 6th. Make sure to look at it

Good luck!

Beth
