Paris

Hi All
I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Paris in 2026.
I would love to know what is on your must see list. We probably have 7 days and one of those days will be set aside to see Normandy, but everything else is open. Im also thinking a day in wine country?
All your suggestions are welcome.
Thank you in advance

Everyone has different "must-see" goals and interests so it all really depends on what YOU like and are interested in. There are the obvious ones, and some not-so-obvious. Paris has plenty to do for just about everyone. I'd start with consulting a guidebook or two if you need ideas.

How many days do you have on the ground? Is your 7 days including flights to/from home? If so, then you would only have 5 days for Paris - which beyond standard attractions, might afford you enough time for one day trip, not 2.

Personally, I would do Normandy as an overnight not just as a day trip - depending on what you want to accomplish, I would spend at least 2 full nights - which gives you one full day for Normandy region itself.

What wine country are you referring to? There are several, including several in/around Paris.

Prebook major sites, if of interest, such as major museums (Louvre, d'Orsay) as well as Sainte Chapelle, Versailles, Eiffel Tower. If you do go to Versailles, plan on it taking a full day from Paris - which will mean you have even less time for the city.

Thank you! Appreciate your insight! I agree, I will purchase a guide book to help me with decisions. But I really do like to hear what people have to say, it helps with the decision making . Som thanks again!

I am a museum and history lover but not a shopper. I have enjoyed taking walking tours with Paris Walks: https://www.paris-walks.com/index_m.html.
As far as my favorite sights, these come quickly to mind:

Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame
L'Orangerie museum
Musée d'Orsay
Rodin Museum
Luxembourg Gardens
The Eiffel Tower at night when the lights twinkle on the hour
The Louvre
Marmatton Museum
Strolling along the Île de la Cité with Bertillon Ice Cream
Taking a food tour

What Travel_Nerd said.

Absent information about your interests, I can’t see how “hearing what people have to say” would be any greater help with decision making than checking tripadvisor ratings. If you are simply trying to avoid doing your own research, so be it – your trip, your choice of how to plan. But if you want serious input, you need to tell us what your interests are, whether you are traveling alone or with the family you mention in another post, what time of year you will be going, and all the other things people have mentioned as potentially relevant. I’m sorry if that sounds harsh.

Good luck!

What KT Travel said. When are you going? Who's going with you? Just asking, because my list has changed over the years, from my first trip when I was 19, to marriage, to kids, to just me and DH. And first trip?

First trip: Eiffel Tower, of course, Notre Dame, Versailles, Louvre, L'Orangerie (pre-Musee D'Orsay), Luxembourg Gardens, Sorbonne, Shakespeare & Company, Latin Quarter, Arc de Triomphe, Montmartre, Sacre Coeur, Pere Lachaise cemetery (Jim Morrisson had just died and buried there, so that was THE place to go!), you name it. Actually, it was first through fourth trip, since I had moved to France to study in Grenoble, and was constantly going to Paris for concerts or hang with friends.

Since then, been to Paris about 15 - 20 more times. Way different interests, kids and catering to their needs, like the Jardin d'Acclimation, or when a little older, the Catacombs.

Maybe for the last 20+ years, we go during events: Bastille Day, the bals the day before, summer solstice and the Festival of Music, or for a specific concert I want to attend.

Places I keep going back to almost every time, so obviously, it's what pleases/interests me the most: Musee d'Orsay, rue Mouffetard, Eiffel Tower, la Cite, Montparnasse EVERYTHING (including the cemetery), Arenes de Lutece, literary and artistic walks (created over time, to see the residences and haunts of James Joyce, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc), photographing Invader tiles, Au Printemps and Galleries Lafayette.

Places I want to go back to: Giverny, Catacombs, La Ruche, another Mike's Bike's evening bike tour. Place I want to go to: Caillebotte's residence and the river Yerres, a short train ride out of Paris.

I went up the Eiffel Tower on my 8th trip to Paris, and then I wondered what all the fuss is about.

The best view in Paris can be had by climbing the spiral staircase to the top of Sacre Coeur where you can walk along the rooftop. That way you have the Eiffel Tower in the background and the Byzantine architectue of the basilica in the foreground. The best do both worlds.

My favorite place to go is Les Puces de St Ouen, the big flea market of Paris. It's comprised of a dozen markets. Many antiques, so if you are in the market for an 18th Century carriage or a suit of armor, this is your place. My favorite is Marché Vernaison.

I followed the Michelin Green Guide walking tour of the Marais. The beginnings of Paris.

Ditto shelemm regarding the Eiffel Tower.

I suggest you read the guide books, then come back here.
Why?
Because you might read someone waxing eloquently about his stay in "X", and build your plans around that. only to find "X" was not a "prime" location. Only by reading guide books can you get distilled, condensed ideas about "prime" locations

People on this forum are very experienced in France, but they all have favorite areas, as we all have in our home countries. I like Utah, and Colorado, but some folks really love Kansas.

Regarding "wine country": the whole country is "wine country".
French have a word, "terroir", which basically means that each plot of land has a unique chemistry, which in turn yields unique wine, "better" than the wine 1/2 mile down the road.
Oddly enough, they don't apply "terroir" to corn, or beans, or wheat, or carrots, or apples, or peaches, etc. Only grapes.
But they believe in it, fervently, intensely.
If you openly say one wine tastes like another, they look down on you...."he must have only one taste bud".
If just any ol' winery is enough for you to say, "I went to a winery", then be open about the lack of discrimination.

KTtravel list is great especially for first time visitors. I would add that in our many trips to Paris we gravitated more and more to the haut Marais (stayed in an apt there for 9 or 10 years) and the 11th. Love the Canal St Martin and Picasso museum in the Marais. Lots of small streets and interesting squares to wander around and great food market-Marches des Enfants Rouges on rue Rue de Bretagne. If you like food Hungryonion site has great Paris suggestions made by knowledgeable foodies.
