Crazymina, sorry to disappoint you, you are not inventing paper robes! Along with the paper pants they sell paper shirts. Here is a link to the CBS article - the "changing" tourists are an attraction for laughing locals:

There are plenty of lightweight clothes that will satisfy the requirements without hitting the paper trail. I'm one of those people who believes that respecting traditions is important when you are a visitor in another culture.
My story is in Macedonia. We were shepherding a group of college students who had all been told what the dress code was for the working monasteries. One older female student thought she'd be cute -- she ended up in a heavy wrap-around dusty dark blue floor length robe!
