Panoramic train from Gruyere to Wengen, Switzerland

My three daughters and I take the train from Appenzell and overnight in Montreux on July 14-15 for the Jazz Festival. I booked the next two nights in Gruyere, then planned to take the Golden Pass panoramic train to Wengen. However, it seems as though Gruyere is not on the route for the Golden Pass. The Jazz Festival last day is on the 16th, although I didn't want to wait until the last day. If I can't take the panoramic train from Gruyere to Wengen, would I be better to take the train from Appenzell to Gruyere, overnight in Gruyere on the 14th, Montreux on the 15th, and then take the Golden Pass panoramic train from Montreux to Wengen on the 16th? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi triples,

You simply take a quick train from Gruyeres to Montbovon and get on the panoramic train there. The Golden Pass goes through Montbovon, and Gruyeres is a quick detour from there.

So you would go:

Montreux - Montbovon - Gruyeres

and then

Gruyeres - Montbovon - Wengen

Have fun as you plan!

Hi s; thanks for quick reply. If booking train tickets from Gruyere on the dbahn website, which station do ai select ...we will be staying in the medieval village. Also. We would like to reserve the seats at the front of the cabin on the panoramic train. I did not see this choice on the booking page.

Hi again,

First of all, you shouldn't be using the DB site. That site is great for looking up train schedules throughout Europe, and for buying tickets that start or end in Germany -- but for train trips wholly within Switzerland, best to use the Swiss rail site at

www.sbb.ch

then change the language at the top of the page: "en."

Secondly, you really don't need to "book" most trains within Switzerland; you can just walk up and buy a ticket. There is no price advantage to buying the tickets in advance in Switzerland.

Ok, to see the schedules, you should select either "Gruyeres" or "Gruyeres Gare"; the first is the name of the town, and the second is the name of the train station in town. Same place. The other options are for bus stops.

If you want to book the VIP seats, you should use the Golden Pass site at

www.goldenpass.ch

They've "improved" the site, and I find it harder to navigate now. So here is the link:

It's probably too early now to reserve seats. I just did a dummy booking and got a message that it's not possible to reserve yet. You can try again in January or February 2016. You can use the SBB site to get the schedules and to see which connections have the VIP seating available.

I'm sorry for this mess, but this site is apparently only letting me post one or two sentences at a time.

Hope you can get the information you need!
